A Glasgow<\/a> family has opened up on their “terrifying” experience after their tiny twin babies were born at 29 weeks.<\/p>\n

New parents Jennifer Prior and Darren Lee were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their twins<\/a> this year when complications arose at the 20-week mark of Jennifer\u2019s pregnancy.<\/p>\n

After regular monitoring, doctors at Glasgow Children’s Hospita<\/a>l told the first time mum her babies needed to be delivered immediately.<\/p>\n

Marcus and Macie were born on January 10, weighing just 1lb 3oz and 2lb respectively.<\/p>\n

They were immediately taken into neonatal intensive care at Glasgow Children’s Hospital, where they remained for 10 weeks, reports Glasgow Live.<\/a><\/p>\n

The twins were the first to use the hospital\u2019s specially designed twin cot \u2013 a feature the family says made a \u201chuge difference\u201d during their care.<\/p>\n

Grandmother Yvonne, from Yoker, described meeting her first great-grandchildren as \u201cemotional\u201d and praised the hospital staff.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cIt was very stressful and with them being so small, they needed a lot of care. Jennifer was at the hospital every single day. I had never seen babies that small \u2013 it was scary but also incredibly moving. The nurses were amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now safely home in Clydebank, the twins are thriving, and the family is giving back. Great-grandfather Peter has launched a fundraising challenge to support the Glasgow Children\u2019s Hospital Charity as a way to thank staff for their care.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe hospital staff were like angels,\u201d said Yvonne. \u201cPeter is determined to give something back. We\u2019re so proud of him and touched by the support we\u2019ve received.\u201d<\/p>\n

New mum Jennifer added: \u201cIt was a terrifying time, but we got through it. We\u2019re just so happy they\u2019re doing well now. The hospital care was incredible \u2013 I couldn\u2019t have asked for better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peter\u2019s cycling fundraiser has already raised more than \u00a3500.
