Sheffield United were beaten in the Championship play-off final on Saturday by Sunderland – and no-one was more delighted than Barry Bannan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> captain took to Instagram in the immediate aftermath of the Blades losing to mock his side’s bitter rivals.<\/p>\n

Bannan revelled in the fact Sheffield United<\/a> wouldn’t be going to the Premier League<\/a> and would be facing Wednesday again next year in the Steel City Derby.<\/p>\n

In the video, the 35-year-old showed himself on holiday before panning his phone around to look at the TV.<\/p>\n

On the TV, you can clearly see Sunderland<\/a> players celebrating after beating the Blades 2-1 at Wembley<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the video, which includes laughing face emojis, Bannan starts by saying, “Lovely, lovely, lovely”, while looking at his pool.<\/p>\n

Then, when he pans to the TV, he says: “Oh, that’s a shame. What a Saturday!”<\/p>\n

It is a video that is unlikely to go down too well with Sheffield United fans, but Wednesday supporters are almost certain to lap it up.<\/p>\n

In his time at Hillsborough, the former Aston Villa man has had an ongoing feud with Sheffield United.<\/p>\n

He was even the target of a series of tweets earlier in the week when the Blades had their Twitter account hacked<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Of course, the ex-Scotland international is a bit of a modern-day Wednesday legend.<\/p>\n

Bannan has been with Sheffield Wednesday for ten years and has made 447 appearances.<\/p>\n

In that time, he’s faced the Owls’ bitter inner-city rivals on plenty of occasions, and he clearly fully embraces the rivalry.<\/p>\n

In terms of the game itself, boss Chris Wilder<\/a> will wonder how his team let it slip through their grasp.<\/p>\n

The Blades broke the deadlock in the 25th minute through Tyrese Campbell after great work from Gustavo Hamer on the counter-attack, and it was the least they deserved.<\/p>\n

But the second goal for Sheffield United wouldn’t come, with Andre Brooks being denied by Patterson in the second half.<\/p>\n

Hamer then limped off, which changed the game, while Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris made two substitutions which had a huge impact on the match.<\/p>\n

Patrick Roberts set up the equaliser that Eliezer Mayenda scored brilliantly, but the day was saved for Tom Watson.<\/p>\n

This was Watson’s final game for Sunderland before he completes a summer move to Brighton, and he couldn’t have wished for it to be any better.<\/p>\n

In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Watson picked up a loose pass from Moore and advanced to the edge of the area.<\/p>\n

He then curled in a delightful low shot that nestled in the bottom corner of the net.<\/p>\n

The final whistle blew shortly after to confirm Sunderland’s Premier League return – eight years after being relegated.<\/p>\n

For the Blades, it’s a long summer ahead, and Bannan wasted no time in mocking his club’s bitter rivals.<\/p>\n
