{"id":130626,"date":"2025-05-25T12:28:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-25T12:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/130626\/"},"modified":"2025-05-25T12:28:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-25T12:28:09","slug":"council-granted-court-order-to-stop-bin-lorry-blocking-at-birmingham-waste-depots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/130626\/","title":{"rendered":"Council &#8216;granted court order&#8217; to &#8216;stop bin lorry blocking&#8217; at Birmingham waste depots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An interim injunction is said to be in place after more than 12,000 tonnes of waste went uncollected this week<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1748176089_788_5_JS363239772.jpg\" alt=\"Striking bin men walked in front of bin lorries leaving Birmingham City Council's depot in Redfern Road in Tyseley\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Striking bin men walked in front of bin lorries leaving Birmingham City Council&#8217;s depot in Redfern Road in Tyseley<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-city-council\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Birmingham City Council<\/strong><\/a> has been granted a court order which will stop bin lorries from being blocked from leaving waste depots &#8211; at least temporarily.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The interim injunction is said to ensure that picketing and protests at the authority&#8217;s three depots &#8211; located in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/perry-barr\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Perry Barr<\/a>, Kings Norton and Tyseley &#8211; will be in line with the law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It comes after striking bin workers once again resumed their &#8216;go-slow&#8217; tactics of blocking bin lorries from leaving the depots on time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE:<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/fear-birmingham-could-reach-crisis-31710283\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> <\/a><\/strong><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/fear-birmingham-could-reach-crisis-31710283\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Fear Birmingham could reach &#8216;crisis point again\u2019 as bin bags pile up<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/west-midlands-police\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"West Midlands PoliceLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">West Midlands Police<\/a> had also reportedly reduced the number of officers at the three sites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The force confirmed the use of powers to keep protesters behind barriers, under Section 14 of the Public Order Act, were &#8220;no longer in place&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Late on Friday the council secured an interim injunction which would last until Thursday next week when a further legal hearing will take place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A council statement read: \u201cWe have seen an increase in disruption at our depots, with workers and vehicles being prevented from doing their jobs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;This has in turn led to a backlog of approximately 12,800 tonnes of waste on the streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;We have been negotiating with Unite since the start of this strike around the behaviours we have seen at our depots, and whilst everyone has a right to protest, the council has a public health duty to uphold and clearing waste is central to this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;We believe that these actions are in breach of the law.
