{"id":130628,"date":"2025-05-25T12:29:11","date_gmt":"2025-05-25T12:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/130628\/"},"modified":"2025-05-25T12:29:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-25T12:29:11","slug":"rent-in-barnet-rises-7-in-past-year-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/130628\/","title":{"rendered":"Rent in Barnet rises 7% in past year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The average private rent in Barnet reached \u00a31,852 per month in the year to April reports Sonja Tutty, Data Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"583\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1748176150_364_radarrent.jpg\" alt=\"A row of new looking terraced houses\" class=\"wp-image-36093\"  \/>Across London, the average rent was \u00a32,246 \u2013 rising 8% from the year before \u2013 (Credit \u2013 Radar)<\/p>\n<p>Rent in Barnet rose 7% over the past year, new figures show.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as Propertymark, a membership organisation for estate agents, said rental supply must rise to meet the increasing demand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/economy\/inflationandpriceindices\/datasets\/priceindexofprivaterentsukmonthlypricestatistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Provisional figures from the Office for National Statistics <\/a>show the average private rent in Barnet reached \u00a31,852 per month in the year to April<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 up 7% from \u00a31,728 a year prior.<\/p>\n<p>It was also up 26% from an estimated \u00a31,471 a month five years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Data on rent prices is collected by the Valuation Office Agency from a variety of sources, including landlords and letting agents, with the aim of collecting data on approximately 10% of the market.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/visualisation\/23301732\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Across London,<\/a> the average rent was \u00a32,246 \u2013 rising 8% from the year before.<\/p>\n<p>Kensington and Chelsea had the highest rental cost in the region at \u00a33,663 per month, while the lowest was in Bexley at \u00a31,428.<\/p>\n<p>In April, the average private rent in Great Britain was \u00a31,346 per month. This was \u00a392, or 7%, higher than 12 months ago.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan Emerson, chief executive of Propertymark, said: \u201cOverwhelming demand within the rental sector continues to influence price increases for those who rent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cWe continue to witness, on average, around 10 applicants for every property available to rent and this is a situation that has broadly remained stagnated across the last five years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is imperative that rental supply rises to meet the challenges of demand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The figures also show the different costs for various homes in Barnet, from \u00a31,420 for a one-bed property to \u00a33,063 for a home with four or more bedrooms in\u00a0April.<\/p>\n<p>Among the property types in the area:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A detached housed cost \u00a32,898 to rent per month<\/li>\n<li>A semi-detached cost \u00a32,446 per month<\/li>\n<li>A terraced house was \u00a32,113 per month<\/li>\n<li>And a flat or maisonette was \u00a31,652 a month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Independent news outlets like ours \u2013 reporting for the community without rich backers \u2013 are under threat of closure, turning British towns into news deserts.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The audiences they serve know less, understand less, and can do less.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If our coverage has helped you understand our community a little bit better, please consider supporting us with a monthly, yearly or one-off donation.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Choose the news.
