Arne Slot praised the reaction of Liverpool supporters towards Trent Alexander-Arnold \u2013 but has vowed to continue making it difficult for players to leave the Premier League<\/a> title winners. Alexander-Arnold made his 354th and final appearance after 20 years at the club when emerging from the bench for the second half of the 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The right-back was targeted for abuse by a section of the Anfield<\/a> support a fortnight ago when coming on as a substitute against Arsenal, the first game after confirming his departure this summer on a free transfer with Real Madrid his expected next destination.<\/p>\n

But the 26-year-old’s name was cheered when read out before the Palace game with the player also saluted when he was introduced after half-time, and later given an emotional reception when stepping up to receive his Premier League winners\u2019 medal.<\/p>\n

And when asked about the response of the Anfield<\/a> crowd towards Alexander-Arnold, Slot<\/a> said: \u201cHe deserved it. I am very happy for him and everyone in and around the club that things worked out the way they did.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt went brilliant when our fans are together. How brilliant they were before the Tottenham game, during the Tottenham game and afterwards I don\u2019t think you see as many special celebrations as you saw four weeks ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think you see many celebrations like we had them today. It\u2019s no surprise to me that they (the fans) were brilliant again today as they were throughout the whole season, as they were towards Trent.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt also helped that what an unbelievable half he played. The passes he played were, if you make a highlight (reel) out of this, it would take you three, four or five minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ball to Darwin (Nunez) was another level, it was next level.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alexander-Arnold<\/a> was in tears on the Anfield pitch immediately after the final whistle before taking part in the trophy lift and subsequent celebrations.<\/p>\n

And Slot added: \u201cEverybody could see how difficult he had it after the game. That tells you how hard it is to leave a club like this. That\u2019s all we can try to do, to make it so hard for the players to leave.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany of them stay. Trent made a decision to go, unfortunately for us.
