Like everyone else, Bayern Munich<\/a> and German national team legend Lothar Matth\u00e4us was stunned by the news that Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz had opted to join Liverpool FC<\/a> instead of the Bavarians. <\/p>\n

\u201cPersonally, I also thought Florian would want to stay in Germany for the next few years. He\u2019s taking on a big challenge. It\u2019s not just a new club: it\u2019s a new mentality, a new language,\u201d Matth\u00e4us has told Bild (as captured by The Liverpool Echo<\/a>). \u201cBut this step also shows that he\u2019s not afraid. Florian Wirtz believes in himself 100 percent \u2013 and rightly so: I have absolute confidence in him that he\u2019ll make it at Liverpool<\/a> and in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t have to hide from anyone. A year before the World Cup, the move is also a risk, a leap into the unknown \u2013 but his friends and family will certainly support him very well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wirtz is certainly taking a leap, but the youngster has been up to meeting each and every challenge of his career head-on so far. This latest task could just fall in line with the rest of his successes. <\/p>\n
