It is known for its live folk music and legendary pint of Guinness owing to its Irish ownership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Last week, landlord Eimear Hawes confirmed on the pub&#8217;s <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/facebook\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> page: &#8220;Due to rising costs we had no option but to increase our prices.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Back in 2023 when <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink\/irish-pub-bristol-serves-cheap-4445776\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol Live reviewed the pub<\/a>, a pint of Guinness cost just \u00a34.20. Though the exact price rise was not detailed, loyal customers predicted their bill would still be cheaper than most Bristol pubs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One commented: &#8220;Still cheaper than most of the city.&#8221; Another wrote: &#8220;Understandable. Still a proper pub&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A third wrote: &#8220;Bet you&#8217;ll still be cheaper than most. Wouldn&#8217;t matter, I&#8217;ll always pay a premium to NOT be in a pub full of ****heads. Keep up the good work Eimear and we&#8217;ll keep coming.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Another agreed it was &#8220;still worth it for the best pint of Guinness around&#8221; and someone else declared that they will &#8220;still be coming in for pints&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Eimear previously <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink\/irish-pub-bristol-serves-cheap-4445776\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">told Bristol Live<\/a> recalled how the pub &#8220;was in a pretty bad shape&#8221; when he took it over more than a decade ago, and it took hard work to get it to where it is today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He said at the time: &#8220;We didn\u2019t go out deliberately to open an Irish bar, but the ambiance and some fittings leaned in that direction. Fishponds is a very diverse community made up of many races, creeds and alternative beliefs. Our hope was to create and facilitate a true community bar that everyone could feel a part of.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Star now has 800 positive reviews on Google, with many commending its homeliness, affordable drinks and lovely garden area. Many mention \u201cthe best Guinness\u201d they\u2019ve had in Bristol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One visitor wrote: \u201cThe Star is a brilliant pub with a top-notch atmosphere, great music, and friendly staff. Hands down, the best Guinness I\u2019ve had around. With pool, skittles, and more, there\u2019s always something to do, but the real highlight is the Irish music &#8211; if you\u2019re after a proper pint and a good time, this place is absolutely worth a visit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Another wrote: \u201cWhat a great pub, fantastic atmosphere, affordable drinks and live music so what more could you want and all on the main road and right on our doorstep, a true gem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Fishponds area has seen development recently, with some <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/gallery\/look-back-what-happened-historic-9564168\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">much-loved pubs being turned into housing or other businesses<\/a>, but The Star has stood the test of time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Next door to the pub is a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/special-features\/first-look-inside-mcdonalds-fishponds-3580158\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">McDonald&#8217;s drive-thru<\/a>, which has been beside The Star since 2019. Eight years ago <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/traffic-halted-hundreds-march-road-14091\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">hundreds of campaigners marched<\/a> along Fishponds Road to protest at the plans for the two-storey McDonald&#8217;s in the area &#8211; a procession of noise and colour that started at The Star pub.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Despite the changes in the neighbourhood, it has maintained a loyal following. On Google, one reviewer describes it as an \u201camazing homely pub that despite serving Irish measurements, is still so cheap. My favourite place to grab a pint\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">There\u2019s also a pool table and pool team at the venue, out the back there\u2019s a \u201clovely\u201d beer garden area for sunny days.
