Police have issued an update after a double stabbing left a man fighting for his life. The victims self presented at Salford<\/a> Royal Hospital after reports of “people fighting with knives” in a city street.<\/p>\n

One of the two is in a critical condition and the other has been discharged<\/a> after being treated for their injuries.<\/p>\n

The Manchester Evening News understands that police have identified the location of a linked incident in the Cobden Street area of Pendleton. A police scene remains in place there this morning whilst enquiries are ongoing.<\/p>\n

Three adult men were arrested and remain in custody for violent disorder in relation to the incident. An investigation is currently ongoing led by CID officers from Salford.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police<\/a> said: “Officers responded to reports of people fighting with knives on Cobden Street in Salford at 2:45am this morning (Monday 26 May 2025). Two men were taken to hospital with stab wounds.<\/p>\n

“One male suffered a minor injury, but the other male suffered a serious injury and is in a critical condition.<\/p>\n

“Three men \u2013 aged 27, 31, 33 \u2013 have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. They remain in police custody. A scene remains in place while officers conduct their enquiries.<\/p>\n

“This is an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community.”<\/p>\n

Local Independent Socialist councillor, John Warmisham, said: \u201cIt really concerns me the rise of knife crime, it\u2019s totally unacceptable.<\/p>\n

“Who in their right mind goes out carrying a bladed weapon? It\u2019s now left someone seriously injured. If anyone has any information please contact GMP.<\/p>\n

“We don\u2019t want this behaviour on the streets of Pendleton and Charlestown Ward.”<\/p>\n

Spate of stabbings over weekend<\/p>\n

The incident is the latest in a spate of May bank holiday weekend knifings in Greater Manchester. Before today’s attack three knife incidents had left four young men, some only teenagers, in hospital with injuries ranging from serious to life-threatening.<\/p>\n

Police have even been forced to crack down on parts of Manchester, with extra stop and search powers being granted.<\/p>\n

Four men, aged 17, 18, 24, and 25, are now all being treated in hospital with stab wounds after the incidents in Moss Side<\/a>, Longsight<\/a> and Droylsden<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Friday (May 23) at around 8pm, police were called to reports of a man aged 24 presenting with stab wounds at A&E following an alleged assault on Moss Lane East in Moss Side. No arrests have been made and the man remains in hospital with ‘serious injuries’.<\/p>\n

On Saturday (May 24) at around 5pm, police were called to a disturbance on Stockport<\/a> Road. When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found a man and a boy aged 18 and 17 with stab wounds<\/a>. An air ambulance landed next to Polygon Avenue in Ardwick.<\/p>\n

A short while later, a large sheath was handed over to police officers by a member of the public on Lauderdale Crescent.<\/p>\n

Then, yesterday (May 25) at around 2.50pm police were called to reports of a stabbing on Ashton Road<\/a> in Droylsden.<\/p>\n

A 25-year-old man was found with life-threatening stab wounds and was rushed to hospital. A police cordon remains in place, and forensics are at the scene outside the Church Hotel and Metrolink<\/a> Station.<\/p>\n
