Police<\/a> have cordoned off a busy Edinburgh city centre road amid an emergency incident.<\/p>\n Images, shared by an eyewitness, show Calton Road locked down from both ends. Officers<\/a> could be seen standing at the top of the Leith Street as well as at the lower end by St Ninian’s Row.<\/p>\n The exact nature of the disturbance, which is understood to have taken place at 1.30pm on Monday May 26, is still unknown, reports Edinburgh Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n Lothian Buses have advised customers that diversions<\/a> are in place for services travelling along Waterloo Place which has also been closed by officers.<\/p>\n On their website they said: “Due to a road closure<\/a> buses are unable to serve Waterloo Place and are instead terminating at St Andrew Square and are diverted westbound via South St David Street and Princes Street.”<\/p>\n The above impacts: 43, X27, X28, X18 and X19.<\/p>\n Another update added: “Due to a road closure <\/a>buses are unable to serve Waterloo Place and are instead diverted via Leith Street and London Road in both directions until further notice.”<\/p>\n The above impacts: 15, 26, 44, 113, 124, X5, X7 and X4.<\/p>\n A final update<\/a> stated: “Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Waterloo Place and are instead diverted via Frederick Street, George Street and are terminating at St Andrew Square until further notice.”<\/p>\n The above impacts: 43, X27, X28, X18, X19 and X4.<\/p>\n Police Scotland<\/a> have been approached for comment.<\/p>\n Earlier today, in a separate incident, we reported that fire crews have been spotted using “axes and saws” to “break down a wall” as they tackled a blaze<\/a> at a premises in Edinburgh.<\/p>\n The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service first received reports of the incident on Duke Street, in the Leith<\/a> area, at around 4pm on Saturday, May 24.<\/p>\n Police are also on scene, with the street cordoned off<\/a> to the public. It is understood the fire started in the basement of a Chinese restaurant.<\/p>\n A local resident who saw the scene unfold told our sister title Edinburgh Live<\/a>: “There\u2019s four fire trucks and police and the streets all taped off.<\/p>\n “They\u2019re using axes and saws<\/a> to break down a wall, because there\u2019s fire coming from the basement in The Lucky Buddha.”<\/p>\n A picture taken from behind the cordon shows several fire engines in the road, with around eight firefighters gathered<\/a> around the entrance to the restaurant.<\/p>\n Smoke still appears to be billowing out<\/a> from its front door as hoses can be seen snaking inside.
