{"id":133546,"date":"2025-05-26T15:17:08","date_gmt":"2025-05-26T15:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/133546\/"},"modified":"2025-05-26T15:17:08","modified_gmt":"2025-05-26T15:17:08","slug":"max-verstappen-dismisses-f1-title-talk-after-big-struggle-in-monaco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/133546\/","title":{"rendered":"Max Verstappen dismisses F1 title talk after \u201cbig struggle\u201d in Monaco"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Max Verstappen is refusing to think about this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/f1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F1<\/a> world championship, adopting the approach of taking it \u201crace by race\u201d following the Monaco Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Verstappen finished fourth in Sunday\u2019s race in Monte Carlo, 20.5s behind race winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/f1\/racer\/912058\/lando-norris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lando Norris<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Dutchman led the race until the end of Lap 77 before making his second mandatory pit stop.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Red Bull\u2019s low-speed corner weakness meant that Verstappen could not challenge McLaren or Ferrari in qualifying.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Red Bull then went long with Verstappen, keeping him out until the end of the penultimate lap in case of a red flag or Safety Car.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Verstappen is now 25 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri ahead of this weekend\u2019s Spanish Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Barcelona circuit will likely suit Red Bull, given its lack of low-speed corners.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">When asked about the title race, Verstappen dismissed any talk about it after Monaco.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWell, honestly, I don\u2019t really think about the championship. I just want to go race by race,\u201d Verstappen said as quoted by RN365.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cOf course, some tracks, you might be a bit more competitive, and some you will struggle a bit more. And I think it was clear that, again, in Monaco, we struggled.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cBut honestly, every year we have struggled here with this new generation of cars. Only in \u201923 we had a massive pace advantage, and then you still win the race. But all the other years for me, personally, have always been a big struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Verstappen: \u201cWe know our limitations\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">While Verstappen isn\u2019t usually happy to miss out on a podium, he felt Red Bull extracted the most from their package given their current \u201climitations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Red Bull have excelled at tracks made up of high-speed corners, taking wins in Japan and Imola.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI think considering our pace the whole weekend, we did a good job,\u201d Verstappen added.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cBut yeah, I think as a team, of course, we\u2019re never happy with P4.
