But he claimed it wasn\u2019t feasible to ask for consent before ingesting their work first.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cI think the creative community wants to go a step further,\u201d Clegg said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/technology-uk\/article\/nick-clegg-work-train-ai-l6xl5djb7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to The Times<\/a>. \u201cQuite a lot of voices say, \u2018You can only train on my content, [if you] first ask\u2019. And I have to say that strikes me as somewhat implausible because these systems train on vast amounts of data.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cI just don\u2019t know how you go around, asking everyone first. I just don\u2019t see how that would work,\u201d Clegg said. \u201cAnd by the way if you did it in Britain and no one else did it, you would basically kill the AI industry in this country overnight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The comments follow a back-and-forth in Parliament over new legislation that aims to give creative industries more insight into how their work is used by AI companies. An amendment to the <a href=\"https:\/\/bills.parliament.uk\/bills\/3825\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Data (Use and Access) Bill<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2025\/may\/12\/house-of-lords-pushes-back-ai-plans-data-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">would require technology companies to disclose<\/a> what copyrighted works were used to train AI models. Paul McCartney, Dua Lipa, Elton John, and Andrew Lloyd Webber are among the <a href=\"https:\/\/beeban.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/25.05.09-Press-Release-and-Letter-to-the-PM-Creative-titans-and-industry-leaders-urge-the-Prime-Minister-to-support-UK-creativity-and-economic-growth-by-enforcing-copyright-law-Final-Updated.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hundreds<\/a> of musicians, writers, designers, and journalists who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/666379\/paul-mccartney-dua-lipa-uk-ai-copyright-amendment-letter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed an open letter<\/a> in support of the amendment earlier in May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The amendment \u2014 introduced by Beeban Kidron, who is also a film producer and director \u2014 has bounced around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c39xj284e14o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gaining support<\/a>.
