\t\t\t\tBoth sides bear blame in the Gaza conflict \t\t\t<\/p>\n

Suresh (MetroTalk, Fri) calls for peace in Palestine<\/a> and an end to the suffering of the people of Gaza<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The problem with that is Hamas<\/a> doesn\u2019t want peace.<\/p>\n

Hamas doesn\u2019t care about innocent civilians either, that\u2019s why it uses them as shields. And yet it still enjoys Palestinian support, despite being a terrorist organisation.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not saying that what Israel<\/a> is doing in its bombing and aid blockade is justified \u2013 it could never be justified in doing such things.<\/p>\n

But both sides are responsible for what\u2019s happening, not just Israel as the \u2018free Palestine\u2019 crowd would have you believe. Matt, Sheffield<\/strong><\/p>\n

Did Brexit have a fair shot?<\/p>\n

Julian Self (MetroTalk, Thu) and those of the self-righteous left seem to think that everyone who supported Brexit <\/a>lacks a few brain cells.<\/p>\n

He cites the \u00a3350million a week promised to the NHS as a Leaver lie but the NHS budget has increased by \u00a320bn since 2016.<\/p>\n

And don\u2019t forget the scaremongering spread by the Remainers \u2013 eg 500,000 people were going to lose their jobs<\/a>, banking jobs would move to the EU\u2026\u2028These things never actually materialised.<\/p>\n

We never got a proper Brexit<\/a> and therefore have never got to see the full benefits \u2013 and with Sir Keir Starmer\u2019s betrayal of a \u2018reset\u2019 deal with the EU<\/a>, we most probably never will. David, London<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

EU not immune to the far right<\/p>\n

Perhaps Julian could use his massive intellect to explain why the political far-right has made such large gains in EU member states over the past few years? Several countries have far-right parties as part of their governments, while other states have needed to form unlikely coalitions \u2028to keep the far-right from taking power.<\/p>\n

There is nothing to show that the rise of the right is slowing in those countries. It is blatantly obvious that, if the EU were functioning properly, such extreme views would not be gaining traction. <\/p>\n

So while Julian bemoans British right-wing parties, he is at the same time advocating the joining of a bloc where the right could soon hold a majority. <\/p>\n

Rather than seeming intellectual, Julian and his Remainer colleagues give the impression of being the only lifeboat passengers in history who want to climb back aboard the ship! John, London<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trade talks are Brexit\u2019s burden<\/p>\n

Brexiteers are overlooking the fact that the UK must now negotiate a trading deal with the EU, the world\u2019s largest trading bloc, just as they\u2019ve done with all the other countries so far. This can\u2019t be seen as a sell-out but as another needless burden due to Brexit. Hyden Andrew, Luton<\/strong><\/p>\n

A powerful approach to memory loss<\/p>\n

I found the stories you featured last week in partnership with Alzheimer\u2019s Society \u2013 as part of Dementia Action Week<\/a> \u2013 of people who have been affected by the condition very moving and informative.<\/p>\n

The memory boxes (Metro, Thu) \u2013 where everyday items from people\u2019s personal history, such as soap bars and shampoos, are used to stimulate memory and conversations \u2013 are a lovely idea. Sara, Cheltenham<\/strong><\/p>\n
