With Scream 7<\/a> bringing back several characters from the dead, one franchise alum hopes to join in on the fun and see her character emerge from the afterlife. Scream 2<\/a> star Sarah Michelle Gellar hopes for another run in the titular slasher film series nearly 30 years after seeing others return from the dead for the next sequel.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight<\/a>, Gellar expressed interest in seeing her character, Cici Cooper<\/a>, appear in Scream 7 or a future sequel despite being one of Ghostface’s many victims in the eponymous franchise. However, Gellar never got a call from creator Kevin Williamson or the Scream brass about a comeback. \u201cI tried to get in Scream \u2013 nobody wanted me<\/strong>,\u201d Gellar said. \u201cThey were bringing everybody back, I kept thinking I would get a call<\/strong>. I didn\u2019t get a call.”<\/p>\n

An underappreciated horror film is about to get a new streaming home, and Kiefer Sutherland fans couldn’t be happier.<\/p>\n

Gellar’s time as a scream queen in Scream 2 was brief as Cici was murdered early in the award-winning sequel. The acclaimed actor believes Scream 7 would have been the perfect time to bring Cici back following the inclusion of David Arquette<\/a>‘s Dewey Riley and Matthew Lillard<\/a>‘s Stu Macher, both of whom were also killed off in the early Scream films. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of people that died in all the Scream movies that are back. Skeet [Ulrich], [Matthew] Lillard \u2013 I\u2019m just saying I\u2019m waiting for my call,\u201d Gellar said.<\/p>\n

Scream 7 Features Some Old Faces and a New Direction<\/p>\n

Directed by franchise creator Kevin Williamson, Scream 7 is set to debut following a slew of creative shifts triggered by the departure of helmers Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett), plus star Melissa Barrera’s controversial exit<\/a>. Along with the return of deceased characters, Scream 7 will revolve around Neve Campbell’s legacy character<\/a>, Sidney Prescott, and her family after Campbell skipped Scream VI due to salary disagreements.<\/p>\n

Scream 7 wrapped filming in March after a January production start. Scream mainstay Courtney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers, while Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding are again playing twins Mindy Meeks-Martin and Chad Meeks-Martin, returning from 2022’s Scream and Scream VI. Roger L. Jackson also returns as the voice of Ghostface, a role he’s played since the original Scream.<\/p>\n

Sarah Michelle Gellar is about to reprise her role as Buffy, and she’s excited about it.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Gellar is also associated with another cult classic horror film, notably starring as Helen Shivers in I Know What You Did Last Summer, which Williamson wrote. With I Know What You Did Last Summer getting a sequel 28 years after the original, there were rumors of Helen returning for the movie despite being killed off in the first installment. However, the remake’s director, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, revealed that she was unsuccessful in convincing Gellar to return<\/a> despite “relentlessly” trying to get her on board.<\/p>\n

Scream 7 opens in theaters on Feb. 17, 2026. Fans can also watch Gellar in Scream 2 by streaming the legacy sequel via Paramount+.<\/p>\n
