posted losses exceeding \u00a31billion over the past two years, casting fresh scrutiny over the club&#8217;s controversial transfer spending spree and wider financial model.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">According to figures revealed by <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"class\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/sport\/football\/article\/chelsea-owners-financial-loss-womens-team-hotel-763zdslsz\">The Times<\/a>, 22 Holdco Ltd, the parent company of Chelsea FC, has plunged deep into the red, with losses of \u00a3445.5million last season following a \u00a3653m shortfall the year prior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The losses are largely attributed to &#8216;investments in the playing squads&#8217;, the accounts say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Since the Todd Boehly-led consortium took over in 2022, Chelsea have spent over \u00a31billion on players, signing the likes of <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sport\/enzo-fernandez\/index.html\" id=\"mol-4305f870-172c-11f0-9e08-51debd684830\" rel=\"noopener\">Enzo Fernandez<\/a> (\u00a3106.7m), Moises Caicedo (\u00a3115m), <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" story.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The disparity between Chelsea FC&#8217;s profits and 22 Holdco&#8217;s losses is explained by transactions that the <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sport\/premierleague\/index.html\" id=\"mol-43092cc0-172c-11f0-9e08-51debd684830\" rel=\"noopener\">Premier League<\/a> recognises for Profit and \u00a376.5m sale of two Stamford Bridge hotels, both of which count as profit for PSR purposes but not under standard accounting practice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The sale of the women&#8217;s team has caused some controversy, and Chelsea were dealt a blow last week when it was revealed that UEFA had rejected their bid to use the apparent loophole in the rules.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, the ownership structure effectively shields Chelsea FC Holdings from the group&#8217;s expensive debt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Instead of loans, Chelsea Holdings issued \u00a3315million of shares, thus sidestepping interest obligations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;These loans were not passed through to Chelsea FC Holdings Ltd, which instead issued \u00a3315million of shares, which do not bear interest,&#8217;\u00a0Maguire told The Times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;Combined with the exclusion of the profit on the sale of the women&#8217;s team in the group accounts and the losses incurred at Strasbourg, this helps explain the huge difference between the profit at Chelsea and the losses at Holdco.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">One of the most damning figures in the 22 Holdco accounts relates to their \u00a31.16billion in borrowings, attracting interest rates of up to 11.96 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The group paid over \u00a394million in interest alone in the year ending June 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">This level of debt has been amassed while also purchasing French Ligue 1 club Strasbourg, who were acquired for \u00a343.8million and are now valued by the group at \u00a368million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Based on those figures, Chelsea value their women&#8217;s team, sold internally for \u00a3200m, as being worth the equivalent of three
