Manchester United have released a statement after ‘appalling’ scenes in Liverpool where a car collided with a number of people during the club’s title parade on Monday.<\/p>\n

The city of Liverpool has been rocked after several people were hit by a car as fans made their way to celebrate the club’s Premier League title.<\/p>\n

Merseyside Police have confirmed to GB News that a 53-year-old white British male was detained at the scene.<\/p>\n

Eyewitnesses told GB News Liverpool Lime Street station has been shut and “[there were] tonnes of police and ambulance came rushing in, it was mad.”<\/p>\n

United, traditionally one of Liverpool’s biggest rivals, have posted to social media in response to the shocking events.<\/p>\n

They wrote: “Our thoughts are with @LFC and the city of Liverpool after today\u2019s awful incident.”<\/p>\n

It came in response to Liverpool’s own statement on the incident, which read: “We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.<\/p>\n

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident.<\/p>\n

“We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident.”<\/p>\n

United took to social media to convey their support<\/p>\n

But the scenes turned from jubilation to horror in the blink of an eye after a car drove down Water Street – directly adjacent to the bus parade’s route – where the streets were packed with people.<\/p>\n

Several pedestrians were hit by the car before coming to a halt with police managing to detain someone from within the vehicle.<\/p>\n

An eyewitness told GB News: “I saw a car ram through people and pedestrians then started banging on the car like ‘what are you doing?’<\/p>\n

“Then the driver reversed and sped up forward and mowed down more people as pedestrians, police and ambulances started chasing after the car.<\/p>\n

“It happened five feet away from me, I\u2019m so grateful I managed to avoid it, terrifying to think what could have happened.”<\/p>\n
