The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will roll out new Application Programming Interfaces (API) usage rules for all banks and payment apps.<\/p>\n<p>These changes aim to make the system more secure and efficient\u2014but users may face some restrictions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s a look at what\u2019s changing:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Balance checks: Now capped at 50 times per app<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You will only be able to check your account balance 50 times per day on each <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbctv18.com\/tags\/upi.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UPI app.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you use two apps, you get 50 balance checks on each.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, the app won\u2019t fetch your balance info.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Autopay blocked during peak hours<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Autopay mandates will not go through during busy UPI hours:<\/p>\n<p>10:00 AM to 1:00 PM<\/p>\n<p>5:00 PM to 9:30 PM<\/p>\n<p>These payments will only process during non-peak hours. Expect delays if you set up autopay during peak times.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Limited transaction status checks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If a payment fails due to a network issue or technical error, you won\u2019t be able to repeatedly check the status using the app.<\/p>\n<p>NPCI will restrict repeated status checks to reduce system load.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Account list access limited to 25 times<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Want to check which bank accounts are linked to your mobile number?<\/p>\n<p>You can do it only 25 times a day per app.<\/p>\n<p>The request will work only if you select your bank and give consent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Banks and apps must comply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbctv18.com\/tags\/npci.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPCI<\/a> has directed all banks and payment service providers (PSPs)\u2014like Paytm, PhonePe, and others\u2014to monitor API usage.<\/p>\n<p>Violators may face penalties, usage restrictions, or even a ban on onboarding new users.<\/p>\n<p>All PSPs must also submit a system audit undertaking by August 31, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>NPCI says these limits will help improve system stability and security.<\/p>\n<p>First Published:\u00a0May 27, 2025 11:23 AM IST<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"From August 1, 2025, your Unified Payment Interface (UPI) experience may change.
