Danielle Collins<\/a> said it was \u201creally pathetic\u201d that an incident in her recent match against Emma Raducanu<\/a> went viral. The pair faced off at last week\u2019s Strasbourg Open, where the world No. 54 confronted a camera operator for being \u201cwildly inappropriate\u201d<\/a> and failing to give Raducanu any space.<\/p>\n

Collins went on to beat Raducanu in three sets before losing in the semis there, and she\u2019s now notched a win over another Brit to begin her French Open campaign, ousting Jodie Burrage in the first round. Afterwards, the outspoken American made her feelings clear on the cameraman episode.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what happened in Strasbourg was just me asking for personal space at my workplace. I don’t know why that is even a topic of discussion, frankly. I mean, it should be something that we can get to have during, like, our work,\u201d the world No. 7 stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that I’ve had to ask so many different times in my career and during different matches to just have an adequate level of personal space I think is kind of strange.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think oftentimes it seems like my response is treated like the offense itself. I’m learning that as a female, asking for personal space seems to be an issue for a lot of people. I think it’s really pathetic honestly that it’s even a topic of discussion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raducanu herself has already publicly defended Collins<\/a>. And the American revealed that she was simply trying to help her opponent out after the cameraman \u201cstood\u201d on her.<\/p>\n

Collins added: \u201cIt’s something that over time there’s been no one that’s been able to kind of make the adjustment. In the video, there’s so much that people don’t see.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don’t see the person go and stand right on top of Emma to get a good shot of me in about a two-to three-foot space.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m doing a performance job, trying to focus on my work, trying to maintain my focus and concentration.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy job requires channeling physical, emotional, and then logical, right, things going on. It’s my job to try to put that all together. The last thing that I should be focusing on is someone that’s right on top of my opponent and right in my face.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s really unnecessary, too, especially with the capability that we have with technology. I mean, I feel like we can get a good shot and maybe, like, have a little bit more distance between each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raducanu had been standing up behind her bench when the cameraman backed into her while trying to film Collins getting a drink, and she thought there was nothing wrong with the 31-year-old\u2019s comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was standing up because I didn\u2019t want to sit down in the third set because of my back. I was standing as it was a bit more comfortable,\u201d the Brit said at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen, she came to fill a bottle up and was saying how the cameraman was really close and it felt a bit inappropriate.
