When Marvel first grew its film<\/a> presence with the MCU<\/a>, it did so largely based on the star-power it brought into each production. Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and more helped make the franchise the behemoth it is today and so much of what continues to draw viewers is finding out who will slip into the role of their favorite superhero. <\/p>\n

Equally as engaging though now, are the alternative possibilities that could have been. Speaking at MCM Comic Con in London<\/a>, \u201cDoctor Who\u201d star David Tennant<\/a> admitted that he put himself up for Mister Fantastic in \u201cThe Fantastic Four: First Steps<\/a>,\u201d but it didn\u2019t end up working out<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn terms of superheroes, I don\u2019t know, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards, and unfortunately, it looks like they\u2019ve gone in a different direction,\u201d he said, jokingly, when asked which superhero he\u2019d like to play, \u201calthough if it has to be someone, I\u2019m happy for it to be\u00a0Pedro Pascal<\/a>, frankly.\u201d<\/p>\n

This marks yet another franchise for Pascal, who recently completed his run as Joel in the TV series adaptation of video game series \u201cThe Last of Us.\u201d<\/a> Tennant similarly has participated in a number of franchises, including \u201cDoctor Who\u201d and \u201cHarry Potter,\u201d but something about the stretchy superhero felt special to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would have quite liked to be Reed Richards, I\u2019d quite like to be able to do all that,\u201d Tennant said, referencing the character\u2019s powers of elasticity. \u201cSo I\u2019ll stick with that even though it\u2019s gone, even though it\u2019s gonna be a while before there\u2019s another go at that, I think, unfortunately.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cI think Pedro Pascal is great. I\u2019m very, very pleased that he exists.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked about the limits of Mister Fantastic\u2019s stretching abilities in the film during a March 2025 interview on \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live,\u201d<\/a> Pascal got a bit flustered in his response.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything has to stretch,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Pascal is joined in \u201cThe Fantastic Four: First Steps\u201d by Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm\/The Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm\/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm\/The Human Torch. Other members of the cast include Ralph Ineson, Julia Garner, Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne.<\/p>\n
