Are you ready to return to Middle-earth?<\/p>\n
In 2024, Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis announced<\/a> they would be returning to the Lord of the Rings saga<\/a> with a film titled The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Jackson will be producing alongside his fellow LOTR and The Hobbit producers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, while Serkis will direct in addition to reprising his role as Gollum via motion capture.<\/p>\n The film is currently in pre-production, and everyone is hungry for updates – including, as it turns out, Serkis\u2019s own Lord of the Rings castmates.<\/p>\n \u201cAndy, how\u2019s the film coming on?\u201d John Rhys-Davies cheekily asked during the\u00a0Lord of the Rings reunion panel at C2E2 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe new film? Which new film?\u201d Serkis coyly answered. “Not the Hunt for Gollum film. Do you want me to tell you what it\u2019s all about? I can tell you the whole story,\u201d he continued, before saying there would be no spoilers.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s going really well. It\u2019s very exciting. We\u2019re sort of just writing at the moment. It\u2019s all coming together. We\u2019ll start prepping fairly soon, and then we\u2019re off to the races,\u201d Serkis revealed. The movie is being written by Walsh and Boyens, as well as Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, who also worked on the 2024 animated feature Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI feel like we have a front row seat, because, weren\u2019t we in Brussels? We were at dinner, and you were just starting it, and now it\u2019s coming together,\u201d Sean Astin said to Serkis.
