US President Donald Trump says Russia\u2019s Vladimir Putin is \u2018playing with fire\u2019 and Russia has so far been shielded from \u2018really bad things\u2019.<\/p>\n
A senior Moscow security official has rebuked United States President Donald Trump and raised the danger of another world war breaking out after Trump said Russian leader Vladimir Putin was \u201cplaying with fire\u201d by refusing to engage in Ukraine ceasefire talks with Kyiv.<\/a><\/p>\n Dmitry Medvedev said World War III was the only \u201cREALLY BAD thing\u201d in a response, late on Tuesday, to Trump, who had earlier posted a message to Putin on social media saying that \u201creally bad things would have already happened in Russia\u201d without his intervention.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat Vladimir Putin doesn\u2019t realise is that if it weren\u2019t for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened in Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD. He\u2019s playing with fire,\u201d Trump said in a post on his platform Truth Social.<\/p>\n Medvedev responded on the platform X: \u201cRegarding Trump\u2019s words about Putin \u2018playing with fire\u2019 and \u2018really bad things\u2019 happening to Russia. I only know of one REALLY BAD thing \u2014 WWIII. \u2014 Dmitry Medvedev (@MedvedevRussiaE) May 27, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Currently the deputy chairman of Russia\u2019s Security Council and a key Putin ally, Medvedev served as the Russian president between 2008 and 2012, and is known for his sabre-rattling comments.<\/p>\n He has repeatedly warned throughout the course of Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine that Moscow could use its nuclear arsenal.<\/p>\n Putin also raised the possibility of nuclear confrontation in a state of the nation address in March 2024, warning Western powers of Russia\u2019s nuclear capabilities should any decide to deploy troops in support of Ukraine.<\/p>\n \u201cEverything that the West comes up with creates the real threat of a conflict with the use of nuclear weapons, and thus the destruction of civilisation,\u201d Putin said at the time.<\/p>\n Medvedev\u2019s public rebuke of Trump also comes after the US president said in a post on Sunday that Putin had \u201cgone absolutely CRAZY\u201d<\/a> by carrying out extensive aerial attacks on Ukraine despite widespread calls for a ceasefire and Washington\u2019s frustrated attempts to broker a peace accord.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him,\u201d Trump posted on Sunday.<\/p>\n Trump also told reporters he was considering new sanctions on Russia amid the impasse in ceasefire talks.<\/p>\n\n
