{"id":138204,"date":"2025-05-28T08:50:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T08:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/138204\/"},"modified":"2025-05-28T08:50:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T08:50:09","slug":"jobs-boom-and-economic-growth-predicted-for-west-midlands-and-its-a-real-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/138204\/","title":{"rendered":"Jobs boom and economic growth predicted for West Midlands and it&#8217;s a &#8216;real opportunity&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tens of thousands of new jobs are predicted to be created in the West Midlands in the next decade<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_Mayor.jpg\" alt=\"West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker.\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A huge West Midlands jobs boom and the economy boosted by billions is being predicted in the next decade by an independent report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Universities of Warwick and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham<\/a> commissioned the report which has found the region has the potential to create nearly 100,000 new jobs and deliver an extra \u00a36.5 billion to the UK economy by 2035.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mayor Richard Parker said the report, which comes ahead of the West Midlands Regional Growth Plan to be published in June, confirmed it was a region of &#8216;real opportunity&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/thousands-clips-dangerous-drivers-sent-31730849\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Thousands of clips of dangerous drivers sent to West Midlands Police<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The report by policy, research and strategy consultancy Public First sets out a vision of economic renewal grounded in advanced manufacturing, green energy, electric vehicles, logistics, professional services and digital innovation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Their analysis, based on other regions which have taken action and increased productivity and employment growth in the same sectors, predicted:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Up to 99,000 additional jobs across key industries, nearly double current projections.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Growth outpacing the UK average, reversing a decade-long trend of regional underperformance.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">A \u00a36.5 billion increase in annual growth, generated through focused investment in high-productivity sectors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It showed how each of the seven West Midlands local authorities &#8211; Birmingham, Coventry, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/dudley\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Dudley<\/a>, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/sandwell\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Sandwell<\/a>, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/solihull\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Solihull<\/a>, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/walsall\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Walsall<\/a> and Wolverhampton &#8211; and the region&#8217;s universities had a part to play in driving economic growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: &#8220;This report confirms what I, and others, have been saying for a long time &#8211; when we back the West Midlands to succeed, we can deliver real jobs, real growth and real opportunity. And we can do that in every corner of the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;After almost a decade of under-performing on growth &#8211; below the national average &#8211; we need a focus on our key industries that can be the catalyst we need to become a region of global significance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;The foundations are here: world-leading sectors, incredible universities, brilliant people and a clear plan. Now is the time to deliver and my Regional Growth Plan will do just that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/xd.wayin.com\/display\/container\/dc\/b9ce3c03-3bae-478b-82d0-69f2bdfb886e\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Should Brummies get a bin strike council tax refund?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Rachel Wolf, CEO at Public First, said: &#8220;Our modelling shows that this is a place currently under-performing compared to its potential.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Learning the lessons from international comparators could significantly increase productivity and jobs in the region &#8211; giving the West Midlands a clear route forward.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Professor Stuart Croft DL, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Warwick, said: &#8220;I am proud that The University of Warwick has been able to contribute to the development of this report, which provides a coherent economic narrative for the future of our region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Warwick, is, of course, a global success story.
