The message from BusinessEurope said: \u201cWe have received just now an urgent request from the Cabinet of Commissioner [Maro\u0161] \u0160ef\u010dovi\u010d to provide available data about ongoing and planned European investments in the U.S.,\u201d according to a national industry representative.<\/p>\n
The request came \u201clate Friday night\u201d and responses are expected \u201cas soon as possible,\u201d the representative added, but there is no formal deadline. BusinessEurope is the largest lobby group in Brussels and represents all national employers’ federations.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s unclear whether the Commission has sent business groups a full letter or even a questionnaire with more detailed requests. Several more sector-specific organizations in Brussels told POLITICO they hadn\u2019t received anything, most likely because they are not direct members of BusinessEurope.<\/p>\n
BusinessEurope confirmed it \u201cwas contacted to assist with collecting the most recent data on European investments in the U.S. to demonstrate the importance of the EU-U.S. economic\u00a0relations,\u201d a spokesperson said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for the Commission said the executive was not able to comment on internal procedures.<\/p>\n
