Boris Johnson<\/a>\u2019s ex-wife has urged Sir Keir Starmer <\/a>to take a \u201cmore radical\u201d approach to Brexit<\/a> in order to correct the errors made in the EU deal struck by her former husband.<\/a><\/p>\n Marina Wheeler<\/a>, a human rights lawyer, has announced she is writing a new book urging the prime minister to go much further in his Brexit reset mission<\/a> and build closer relations with Brussels<\/a>. <\/p>\n The new book, titled A More Perfect Union, will call on political leaders to admit that \u201cEurope is once again central to Britain\u2019s future\u201d and argue that Britain should \u201cbuild a union\u201d with the bloc again.<\/p>\n It comes just days after Mr Johnson launched a scathing attack on the prime minister\u2019s Brexit<\/a> deal, which he claimed was \u201chopelessly one-sided\u201d. <\/p>\n \u201cStarmer promised at the election that he would not go back on Brexit. He has broken that promise as he broke his promise on tax\u201d, the former prime minister posted on X. <\/p>\n Sir Keir \u2013 who has made a Brexit reset <\/a>a centrepiece of his administration \u2013 said last week\u2019s UK-EU<\/a> summit marks a \u201cnew era\u201d of relations with the bloc, adding that it is about \u201cmoving on from stale old debates\u201d and \u201clooking forward, not backwards\u201d.<\/p>\n The deal – which was the first serious attempt to fix the harms caused by Brexit after Boris Johnson<\/a>\u2019s flawed deal in late 2019 – was seen as a major coup for the prime minister, <\/a>despite his failure to get concrete details agreed on defence and youth mobility.<\/p>\n Ms Wheeler\u2019s publisher, Weidenfeld & Nicolson, said her book would compare her ex-husband\u2019s Brexit deal to a divorce settlement. <\/p>\n \u201cLike a court order in a divorce, the Brexit deal contains our bare legal obligations\u201d, they said. <\/p>\n \u201cYet as dangerous forces gather and global technologies stoke animosity, we have a wider duty. If Britain and Europe can\u2019t work together, what chance do democracy and the rule of law have?\u201d, the publisher said. <\/p>\n Ms Wheeler added: \u201cNearly 10 years after Britain voted to leave the EU, the unstable state of the world is clear to us all.
