Manchester United’s stars did not heed Ruben Amorim’s call for a ‘fresh start’ as they suffered a shock 1-0 loss to the ASEAN All-Stars.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Burmese winger was slipped in with a perfect pass from Sydney FC star Adrian Segecic and he fired across goalkeeper Tom Heaton.<\/p>\n

Despite firing off 19 shots in total, United<\/a> could not find a way past their Asian counterparts.<\/p>\n

United supporters at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium vented their frustrations at the result and booed the team at full time.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the boos, Amorim said: “I feel always guilty of the performance of the team since I am here in the first game. <\/p>\n

“The boos from the fans, maybe it is something we need because every game that we lost in the Premier League they were always there. <\/p>\n

“Let’s see for next season.”<\/p>\n

Red Devils boss Amorim named a strong side to start despite the fixture coming three days after they beat Aston Villa 2-0 on the final day of the Premier League season.<\/a><\/p>\n

Andre Onana, Harry Maguire, Patrick Dorgu, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Diogo Dalot, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund were amongst the first team regulars who started.<\/p>\n

Amorim made wholesale changes for the second half as Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho and Jonny Evans all made appearances as well as a raft of youngsters.<\/p>\n

It is the first of two matches for United on their post-season trip to Asia, which is expected to net the club \u00a38million.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils round off their tour on Friday in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n

United raking in \u00a38m for the tour is vital revenue given they finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final,<\/a> meaning they won’t compete in European football next season.<\/p>\n

Had the club beaten Tottenham in the Europa League final, they would have qualified for the Champions League and the \u00a3100m income that it brings.<\/p>\n

Instead, they must now rebuild following the club’s worst top-flight campaign since the 1973\/74 season in which they were relegated.<\/p>\n

The club are wasting no time in revamping their attack as talkSPORT understands Matheus Cunha has agreed a five-year deal to join United,<\/a> who are ready to activate his \u00a362.5m release clause.<\/p>\n

Funds for Cunha will be partly raised by the expected sale of Garnacho as the Argentinian was told by Amorim to leave the club.<\/a><\/p>\n

It promises to be a summer of change ahead of Amorim’s first pre-season at United as he looks to turn over a new page.<\/p>\n

United CEO Omar Berrada echoed a similar sentiment in an interview with MUTV prior to the ASEAN All-Stars fixture and called for unity.<\/p>\n

“Ruben is right – the past is in the past,” Berrada said.<\/p>\n

“It’s important to learn and now we need to stay together, stay united.<\/p>\n

“I can only say again thanks to the fans and the owners have also been very supportive in this transition year.<\/p>\n

“Now we need to work really hard to do everything we can to bring the club back to the top.<\/p>\n
