{"id":139779,"date":"2025-05-28T22:07:15","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T22:07:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/139779\/"},"modified":"2025-05-28T22:07:15","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T22:07:15","slug":"brits-warned-drinking-water-could-run-out-in-some-areas-in-just-ten-years-thanks-to-mass-immigration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/139779\/","title":{"rendered":"Brits warned drinking water could run out in some areas in just TEN years thanks to mass immigration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MASS immigration means areas of Britain face running out of drinking water in just ten years, ministers have warned.<\/p>\n<p>Fears over shortages have forced Environment Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/who\/steve-reed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steve Reed<\/a> to seize control of the planning system and force through two new giant reservoirs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A hand filling a glass with tap water.\" height=\"646\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"Getty\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/glass-tap-water-988860098_57504b.jpg\" data-caption=\"Areas of Britain face running out of drinking water in just ten years\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/glass-tap-water-988860098_57504b.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3<\/p>\n<p>Areas of Britain face running out of drinking water in just ten yearsCredit: Getty<a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Portrait of Water Minister Emma Hardy.\" height=\"310\" width=\"465\" data-credit=\"Gov.UK\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/water-minister-emma-hardy-998756594.jpg\" data-caption=\"Water Minister Emma Hardy says 'unprecedented steps' are now being taken\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/water-minister-emma-hardy-998756594.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3<\/p>\n<p>Water Minister Emma Hardy says &#8216;unprecedented steps&#8217; are now being takenCredit: Gov.UK<\/p>\n<p>The emergency projects in East Anglia and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/lincolnshire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lincolnshire<\/a> have been declared \u201cnationally significant\u201d, stripping local authorities of the power to stop them.<\/p>\n<p>New laws will also fast-track all future reservoirs, cutting red tape, as Britain races to keep the taps on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/labour-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Government<\/a> admitted rapid population growth, crumbling infrastructure and climate pressure are all pushing the country towards a water supply crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Water Minister Emma Hardy said: \u201cBritain is running out of drinking water.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In fact, because of years of underinvestment under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/conservative-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Conservatives<\/a>, areas of the country will run out of drinking water by the middle of the next decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are taking these unprecedented steps to get reservoirs built and secure our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/34914937\/uk-toxic-town-forever-chemicals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drinking water<\/a> supplies for the decades to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Net migration has halved over the past year to 431,000 \u2014 but only after hitting a record 906,000 in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/lincolnshire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lincolnshire<\/a> reservoir, south of Sleaford, will pump out 166million litres a day, enough for 500,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/homes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">homes<\/a> or 664million cups of tea.<\/p>\n<p>And the Fens reservoir, near Chatteris and March, Cambs, will supply 87million litres to 250,000 homes in Britain\u2019s driest region.<\/p>\n<p>Both projects are entering consultation. Lincolnshire\u2019s is expected to be completed by 2040 and Cambridgeshire\u2019s by 2036.<\/p>\n<p>Is Bathroom Tap Water Safe to Drink? <\/p>\n<p>Thousands of homes in areas such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/cambridge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cambridge<\/a> and north <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/sussex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sussex<\/a> are blocked from being built owing to water shortages.<\/p>\n<p>And a dry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/spring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spring<\/a> has already depleted reservoirs. Haweswater in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/cumbria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cumbria<\/a> is so low the outline of a village flooded to create it in 1939 has been revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The two new reservoirs are part of a wider plan to create nine new sites, supplying an extra 670million litres of water a day across <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/sport\/football\/team\/1196702\/england\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">England<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Shadow Environment Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/who\/victoria-atkins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Victoria Atkins<\/a> accused Labour of trying to cover up its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/immigration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">immigration<\/a> failures with panic measures.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Panicked announcement&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cWith Labour\u2019s shambolic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/farming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">farming<\/a> policy and failure to grip immigration, it\u2019s no wonder they\u2019re making a panicked announcement about water supplies running low.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also criticised ministers for using rising population as an excuse to \u201cconcrete over the green belt\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A Labour source said: &#8220;Atkins seems to have a lapse in her memory.
