{"id":140962,"date":"2025-05-29T08:44:25","date_gmt":"2025-05-29T08:44:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/140962\/"},"modified":"2025-05-29T08:44:25","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T08:44:25","slug":"the-eyesore-bristol-site-finally-for-sale-for-12m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/140962\/","title":{"rendered":"The eyesore Bristol site finally for sale for \u00a312m"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Empty for 20 years and now partly-demolished, could the saga of the Grosvenor Hotel finally be coming to an end?<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_TCBR280525GrosvenorBRI_03JPG.jpg\" alt=\"The site of the Grosvenor Hotel, near Temple Meads station in Bristol, as it is marketed by Kent-based property agents SJD, in May 2025\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>The site of the Grosvenor Hotel, near Temple Meads station in Bristol, as it is marketed by Kent-based property agents SJD, in May 2025(Image: SJD)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One of Bristol\u2019s most notorious and prominent eyesore sites is up for sale &#8211; and is being marketed as a place to build a tower block of student flats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Grosvenor Hotel site, opposite Temple Meads station, is currently being marketed with an \u2018offers in excess of\u2019 asking price of \u00a312 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The front half of the hotel was demolished in the first few months of 2024, but the 1930s rear extension has been left standing and is currently acting as large billboard site facing Temple Way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">For more than ten years there has been impasse between the Grosvenor Hotel site\u2019s owner, Nimish Popat, and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-city-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol City Council<\/a>, with council chiefs repeatedly pledging to secure a Compulsory Purchase Order, which has not yet happened, and Mr Popat in turn being brought to the courts to secure the structure of the building, particularly after the large fire of October 2023, which left the building unstable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Sign up to receive daily news updates and breaking news alerts straight to your inbox for free <strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3r1T6AI\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"hereLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But now, buyers are being sought for the site, with claims of new plans to demolish the rest of the hotel building and construct large buildings in its place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The site is currently being marketed to potential buyers by Kent-based property marketing firm SJD.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The sales pitch from SJD described the Grosvenor Hotel as: \u201cA site which had a positive pre-application for a 17-storey building, primarily to be used as student accommodation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/3_AD_BL_12-11-2024_grosvenor_02jpeg.jpg\" alt=\"Grosvenor Hotel has stood half-demolished since February of this year and it is pathetic.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Grosvenor Hotel has stood half-demolished since February 2024(Image: Bristol Live)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAlternative plans have also been drafted for a twelve-storey hotel, with commercial units on the basement and ground floor levels, as well as a rooftop restaurant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;The building was previously used as a hotel and then a residential unit, and has since been part demolished due to a fire in 2024,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Accompanying the listing on SJD&#8217;s website is a CGI image that shows a large circular building behind original Grosevenor Hotel frontage, which was demolished in the first months of 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">SJD\u2019s founder Stephen Donnelly told Bristol Live that they act for potential buyers, rather than the owner of the building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe vendor has asked us to try to find a buyer,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is a site where almost anything will be welcome as it has been left for so long. We\u2019ve got a few interested parties, so we will see if a deal can be done,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_TCBR280525GrosvenorBRIJPG.jpg\" alt=\"The site of the Grosvenor Hotel, near Temple Meads station in Bristol, as it is marketed by Kent-based property agents SJD, in May 2025\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The site of the Grosvenor Hotel, near Temple Meads station in Bristol, as it is marketed by Kent-based property agents SJD, in May 2025(Image: SJD)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">At a key location at the gateway to Bristol from Temple Meads, the site forms part of the Temple Quarter regeneration area, but &#8211; alongside the shell of the former George and Railway hotel next door on the corner of Temple Way and Redcliffe Way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mr Popat has steadfastly refused to sell the site, and has rejected Bristol City Council\u2019s offers to buy it.
