{"id":140978,"date":"2025-05-29T08:53:56","date_gmt":"2025-05-29T08:53:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/140978\/"},"modified":"2025-05-29T08:53:56","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T08:53:56","slug":"wolves-surely-have-to-rival-leeds-united-for-unbelievable-player-who-gary-oneil-tried-to-sign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/140978\/","title":{"rendered":"Wolves surely have to rival Leeds United for \u2018unbelievable\u2019 player who Gary O\u2019Neil tried to sign"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Wolves are heading towards a transformative summer with Vitor Pereira at the helm as the Portuguese boss targets several positions. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.molineux.news\/transfer-news\/matheus-cunha-posts-lengthy-and-heartfelt-message-to-wolves-fans-ahead-of-man-united-transfer-i-made-mistakes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matheus Cunha close to joining Manchester United<\/a>, the priority for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.molineux.news\/tag\/vitor-pereira\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pereira<\/a> is to find a replacement for the Brazilian maverick. <\/p>\n<p>It was revealed earlier this year that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.molineux.news\/transfer-news\/what-fans-can-expect-from-wolves-this-summer-as-new-vitor-pereira-transfer-plan-shared\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wolves want to sign at least one number 10<\/a>, preferably to fill Cunha\u2019s void, while further reinforcements are required in attacking areas. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.molineux.news\/news\/wolves-eye-outstanding-4-3m-liverpool-player-but-morgan-gibbs-white-could-complicate-things\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wolves were linked with Harvey Elliott<\/a> from Liverpool, but supporters were in disbelief that a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.molineux.news\/transfer-news\/harvey-elliott-asking-price-now-shared-as-wolves-eye-transfer-for-liverpool-star\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a340 million price tag<\/a> was slapped on him, despite starting just twice in the Premier League in 2024\/25. <\/p>\n<p>Pereira could now be looking elsewhere, perhaps for someone cheaper and just as versatile, with one Championship talent ticking the boxes. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2214869938-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by James Gill - Danehouse\/Getty Images\" \/>Photo by James Gill \u2013 Danehouse\/Getty ImagesWolves should go back in for Gustavo Hamer<\/p>\n<p>Wolves have a long-standing interest in Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer. <\/p>\n<p>In 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.molineux.news\/opinion\/struggling-premier-league-player-could-have-joined-wolves-last-summer-surely-regrets-missing-out-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wolves tried to sign Hamer<\/a> before he joined the Blades from Coventry City. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.molineux.news\/tag\/gary-oneil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gary O\u2019Neil<\/a> was then interested in the 27-year-old after United\u2019s relegation to the second tier. <\/p>\n<p>Now, after a stunning campaign in which the Brazilian was named the Championship Player of the Year, the Old Gold should go back in for him. <\/p>\n<p>Sheffield United were beaten 2-1 by Sunderland in the play-off final on Saturday, and Hamer is now destined for a Premier League return. <\/p>\n<p>Leeds United are admirers of the all-action midfielder alongside several other clubs, but Wolves should join the race for his signature. <\/p>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Gustavo Hamer\u2019s 2024\/25 Championship stats<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>41 games<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>9 goals<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>7 assists<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>11 big chances created<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>1.8 key passes per game<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2.2 shots per game<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>4.4 balls recovered per game<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<p>Hamer was a cut above everyone else in the division, and as shown by the above statistics, is ready to showcase his talents at the top level once more. <\/p>\n<p>Vitor Pereira needs Hamer for midfield depth<\/p>\n<p>For Sheffield United, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffieldunited.news\/news\/oli-mcburnie-raves-about-unbelievable-sheffield-united-players-performance-v-everton-today\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hamer has shown he\u2019s an \u2018unbelievable\u2019<\/a> talent and extremely versatile, capable of operating as a deep-lying playmaker, box-to-box, or in attacking midfield. <\/p>\n<p>Should Wolves capture him, he would be an excellent option for one of Pereira\u2019s number 10 roles, perhaps rivalling the likes of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi for a place in the starting lineup. <\/p>\n<p>More importantly, he would also provide depth to an area of the pitch that is lacking.
