A man has died after a crash in Vauxhall on Wednesday night. At around 7pm on Wednesday, May 28, Merseyside Police<\/a> received a report that a Volkswagen ID3 car had crashed with an AJS Highway Star motorbike<\/a> at the junction of Vandries Street and Waterloo<\/a> Road.<\/p>\n Emergency services, including the North West Ambulance Service<\/a> and the air ambulance, attended the scene, but the motorcyclist, a 38-year-old man, from Liverpool, died at the scene. His family has been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.<\/p>\n The driver of the car stopped at the scene. Following enquiries a 24-year-old man, from Liverpool<\/a>, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless\/inconsiderate driving. He remains in police custody and will be interviewed by detectives later today.<\/p>\n A cordon was put in place on a large section of the road<\/a> and a number of side roads, including Vulcan Street and Porter Street, were closed at the junction of Waterloo Road, these have now reopened.<\/p>\n Photos taken from the scene show a significant emergency services response including fire engines, paramedics and police. An air ambulance later landed in nearby Costco car park to provide medical support. It departed at around 7.50pm.<\/p>\n Following the incident, a witness at the scene told the ECHO on Wednesday night <\/a>how she was walking to the car when she heard “a bang and then scraping”.<\/p>\n Detective sergeant Kurt Timpson, the lead investigating officer from Merseyside Police’s serious collision investigation unit said: \u201cOur thoughts and condolences are with the family of the man who sadly lost his life following the collision yesterday evening. His family has been informed and are being supported by our specially trained family liaison officers.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have launched an investigation into the man\u2019s death, and it\u2019s now a priority for us to get answers on how the collision occurred, and my team is working to establish key facts.<\/p>\n \u201cAlthough a man has been arrested in connection with this incident, I would urgently appeal to anyone who witnessed it to please contact us. Any information no matter how small could be vital to our investigation, so please get in touch.<\/p>\n “I would also ask motorists to please check your dashcam footage to urgently review it if you were driving in the area last night. These devices can often capture key evidence in the moments leading up to the collision without the driver of the vehicle being aware.
