She\u2019ll be joined by a host of returning players including <strong>David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Scott Foley <\/strong>and<strong> Matthew Lillard<\/strong>, with <strong>Mason Gooding<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong>\u00a0Jasmin Savoy Brown<\/strong> also set to reprise their roles from the previous two installments.<\/p>\n<p>So what the hell is Scream 7 actually about and how are all these characters going to be brought back into the mix? These are the questions we still don\u2019t have any answers to. But in a new chat with <a href=\"https:\/\/comicbook.com\/movies\/news\/scream-7-neve-campbell-sidney-prescott-return-explained-core-four-exclusive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ComicBook.com<\/a> this week, writer <strong>Guy Busick<\/strong> does offer up some mild teasers.<\/p>\n<p>For starters, he reveals that Scream 7 takes place approximately two years after the events of Scream VI, and there\u2019s a \u201creally cool reason\u201d why the film ultimately became a Sidney story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to give anything away about the reason [Scream 7] had to be a Sidney movie because there\u2019s a really cool reason,\u201d Busick tells the outlet. \u201c<strong>In all these movies, you have to ask, \u2018Why now? What is the thing Scream\u00a0is commenting on now?\u2019\u00a0<\/strong>Scream\u00a0is always in a conversation with the audience about the state of movies, the state of horror movies and in particular, franchises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>There is a really specific reason why Sidney is in this movie<\/strong>. I will say there is a reason and we were happy with it when we cracked it,\u201d Busick continues. \u201cWe went to Neve Campbell and said, \u2018This is why. This is why Sidney now.\u2019 Neve was like, \u2018Oh, I get that.\u2019 I pitched Kevin [Williamson] this first, too. He got it and then I pitched the studio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Busick stopped short of revealing the setting for Scream 7, but he did state that the film is not set in New York and that Courteney Cox\u2019s Gale Weathers will be the one to bring Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin to the new location where a fresh round of horror is unfolding. \u201c<strong>It\u2019s not New York<\/strong>,\u201d he reveals. \u201c<strong>I don\u2019t want to be the one to spoil where it is<\/strong>. It\u2019s an unspecified amount of time [after VI]. I might get contradicted by other people, but in my mind, more than two years. I would say at least two years.
