Gob smacked&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>18:53, 29 May 2025Updated 19:03, 29 May 2025<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_Ego-Death-cocktail-bar.jpg\" alt=\"Ego Death, specialising in Champagne, cocktails, and bourbon, only opened its doors in November\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Ego Death, specialising in Champagne, cocktails, and bourbon, only opened its doors in the Northern Quarter in November(Image: Kenny Brown | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A \u2018hidden\u2019 cocktail <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/manchester-bars\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">bar<\/a> is reported to be closing its doors just six months after first opening in the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/manchester-city-centre\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">city centre.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It is understood that Ego Death, which is located in the basement of burger joint Super Awesome Deluxe on Thomas Street in the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/northern-quarter\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Northern Quarter<\/a>, will be closing down after service on Sunday (June 1).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The bar, which is accessible via a fridge door, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink-news\/anything-goes-no-egos-hidden-30374497\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">only opened last November<\/a> and is co-founded by Cressida Lawlor, who has previously worked at the likes of London Cocktail Club and Sexy Fish.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">With a name representing \u2018the act of dropping all issues and self awareness\u2019, Cressida said <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink-news\/we-could-new-york-right-30466248\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">at the time of opening that the bar<\/a> had a \u2018no egos\u2019 policy and intended to serve good cocktails, alongside an array of bourbon variations and Champagne.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Previously speaking to the M.E.N, Cressida said the vision for Ego Death came about having wanted to open her own bar for ten years and said the Northern Quarter spot had &#8216;fallen into place&#8217; with what she had in mind.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1748552654_344_0_Ego-Death-cocktail-bar.jpg\" alt=\"Ego Death co-founder and cocktail expert Cressida Lawlor\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Ego Death co-founder and cocktail expert Cressida Lawlor(Image: Kenny Brown | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Speaking of the venue, she said: \u201cThink of us as a rugged, diamond-encrusted knuckle-duster. If you found a knuckle-duster in the street that\u2019s a bit rough and ready but solid silver, that\u2019s us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The venue was opened in partnership with Super Awesome Deluxe founder Beau Myers, who was also behind the original Almost Famous brand <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink-news\/almost-famous-confirms-closure-sites-30871567\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">until it closed all its sites at the start of the year<\/a> with staff losing their jobs. A new company, unrelated to the original, has since taken over the Almost Famous name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In its short time, Ego Death has been recognised for its drinks and ambience and was also recently named a finalist in the New Bar of the Year category at the CLASS Bar Awards last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/classbarmag.com\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The CLASS Bar publication<\/a> was the first to report that the venue would be closing down. As we go through a true ego death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The publication has suggested that Cressida is now seeking a new site and investors to continue her vision. The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Manchester Evening News<\/a> has made numerous attempts to contact Cressida, representatives for Ego Death and Beau Myers for further details on the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Commenting on the reports, many of the bar\u2019s visitors also shared their sadness at the prospect of losing the venue. One person wrote: \u201cGutting news for the team, sending all the love and I&#8217;ll be excited to visit Manchester again to see what you&#8217;re all up to next!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Another said: \u201cCan\u2019t wait to see Ego 2.0, love to you all.\u201d One other person wrote: \u201cGutted, hoping to see what comes next.\u201d Another commented: \u201cWow.
