{"id":143076,"date":"2025-05-30T03:28:08","date_gmt":"2025-05-30T03:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/143076\/"},"modified":"2025-05-30T03:28:08","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T03:28:08","slug":"russia-ukraine-war-list-of-key-events-day-1191-russia-ukraine-war-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/143076\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 1,191 | Russia-Ukraine war News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">These are the key events on day 1,191 of Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s where things stand on Friday, May 30:<\/p>\n<p>Fighting<\/p>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>The Russian army said on Thursday that it had captured three villages in Ukraine\u2019s Donetsk and Kharkiv regions in its latest advance.<\/li>\n<li>Authorities in Ukraine said Russia had fired 90 drones overnight and at least seven people were killed in drone, missile and artillery strikes across <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/5\/29\/russia-ukraine-war-list-of-key-events-day-1190\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">five front-line Ukrainian regions<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Russia said it had repelled 48 Ukrainian drones overnight, including three near Moscow.<\/li>\n<li>Drones made a night-time attack on Russia\u2019s western Kursk region, damaging a hospital and apartment buildings, and injuring at least one person, the regional Governor Alexander Khinshtein said.<\/li>\n<li>Ukraine\u2019s military said its forces remained active in small areas of Kursk, though Russia\u2019s military said last week it had completed the ejection of Ukrainian forces from the Russian region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>Across the border in Ukraine\u2019s neighbouring Sumy region, the regional governor reported new fighting in villages near the border where Russia has been seizing territory. He said various areas in his region were constantly changing hands as both sides continued to battle for control.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cActive battles continue in certain border areas, notably around the settlements of Khotyn and Yunakivka,\u201d Sumy Governor Oleh Hryhorov wrote on Facebook. \u201cThe situation on the line of contact is constantly changing. In some places, we hold the initiative, in others, the enemy is proving to be active.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Russia\u2019s Defence Ministry said its forces had captured three more villages as it slowly advances through parts of eastern Ukraine. These were Stroivka in the northeastern Kharkiv region, and Shevchenko Pershe and Hnativka near the town of Pokrovsk, the focal point of Russia\u2019s westward drive for months.<\/li>\n<li>Ukrainian military reports made no mention of any of the three villages coming under Russian control. Russian forces had launched 53 attacks over 24 hours near Pokrovsk, the military said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ceasefire<\/p>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>The Kremlin said on Thursday that it was waiting for Kyiv\u2019s response to its proposal for new talks in Istanbul next Monday.<\/li>\n<li>Ukraine said it was ready to hold more talks with Russia in Istanbul but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/5\/29\/ukraine-submits-ceasefire-plan-but-russia-responds-with-escalation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demanded that Moscow supply<\/a> a document setting out its conditions for peace in the war, adding that Kyiv had already submitted its vision of a peace settlement.<\/li>\n<li>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia was engaging in \u201cyet another deception\u201d by failing to hand over its peace settlement proposal in advance of the next potential meeting. \u201cEven the so-called \u2018memorandum\u2019 they promised and seemingly prepared for more than a week has still not been seen by anyone,\u201d Zelenskyy said in his nightly video address.<\/li>\n<li>Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Kyiv\u2019s demand on the \u201cmemorandum\u201d was \u201cnon-constructive\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Ukraine\u2019s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Heorhii Tykhyi, said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/5\/28\/russia-proposes-new-round-of-istanbul-talks-ukraine-yet-to-respond\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moscow\u2019s refusal to send the document<\/a> \u201csuggests that it is likely filled with unrealistic ultimatums\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who will host the new talks, called on Russia and Ukraine not to \u201cshut the door\u201d on dialogue.<\/li>\n<li>The Russian delegation to the second round of talks in Istanbul will be the same as for the first round, the Russian TASS news agency cited Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying.<\/li>\n<li>United Nations Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo told the Security Council that the \u201ccautious hope\u201d she expressed a month ago for a ceasefire in Ukraine has diminished in the face of the \u201cbrutal surge in large-scale Russian attacks\u201d against Ukraine.<\/li>\n<li>Ukrainian Deputy Ambassador to the UN Khrystyna Hayovyshyn told the council that \u201cRussia is not signalling any genuine intention to stop its war\u201d, and said that increased political, economic and military pressure on Moscow was required.<\/li>\n<li>Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia rejected the accusations, instead accusing Kyiv of \u201cattempting to prolong the war\u201d and warning that Ukraine\u2019s defeat was inevitable. \u201cNo new anti-Russian sanctions, nor deliveries of weapons to Ukraine or any other hostile steps vis-a-vis Russia will be able to prevent the inevitable military defeat of the Zelenskyy regime,\u201d Nebenzia said.<\/li>\n<li>John Kelley, the United States\u2019s alternate representative at the UN meeting, said that if Russia \u201cmakes the wrong decision to continue this catastrophic war\u201d, Washington will consider \u201cstepping back from our negotiation efforts to end this conflict\u201d, adding that additional sanctions against Moscow were \u201cstill on the table\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Military aid<\/p>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>Zelenskyy said he discussed the possible delivery of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/5\/28\/what-are-germanys-taurus-missiles-that-ukraine-wants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">German Taurus cruise missiles<\/a> to Ukraine with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during his visit to Berlin. \u201cThe Taurus issue was discussed in a one-to-one meeting between the chancellor and me,\u201d the Ukrainian president told the German broadcaster RTL.<\/li>\n<li>Russia accused Serbia of exporting arms to Ukraine, saying it was a stab in the back by its longtime Slavic Balkan ally.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSerbian defense enterprises, contrary to the \u2018neutrality\u2019 declared by official Belgrade, continue to supply ammunition to Kyiv,\u201d Russia\u2019s foreign intelligence service said in a statement.<\/li>\n<li>The statement alleged that exports of Serbian arms to Ukraine are going through NATO intermediaries, \u201cprimarily the Czech Republic, Poland and Bulgaria\u201d. It added: \u201cRecently, exotic options involving African states have also been used for this purpose.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regional security<\/p>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>A Belarusian radio station has been flouting European Union sanctions to spread \u201cdisinformation\u201d and back a pro-Russian candidate on social media in advance of Poland\u2019s presidential election, according to reports.<\/li>\n<li>A Polish-language radio station, set up by Belarus, has been posting pro-Russian narratives on social media for almost two years \u201cdespite EU sanctions\u201d, experts said in a report published by three think tanks.
