The industry needs to cherish this. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tTrue, Warner Bros\/Legendary\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/a-minecraft-movie\/\" id=\"auto-tag_a-minecraft-movie\" data-tag=\"a-minecraft-movie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Minecraft Movie<\/a><\/strong> is delivering 52% of the $153M frame, still an <strong>$80M+<\/strong> second weekend, but I can\u2019t imagine that any exhibitor is complaining about the diversity or the amount of product in the marketplace. Global running total for Minecraft stands at <strong>$434M<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWithout A Minecraft Movie, we\u2019d have Angel Studios\u2019 animated Charles Dickens-Jesus movie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-king-of-kings\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-king-of-kings\" data-tag=\"the-king-of-kings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The King of Kings<\/a><\/strong> leading with around<strong> $17.6M<\/strong>; which technically as the faith-based distributed predicted, is the best opening for an animated Biblical movie, overpowering the opening of DreamWorks Animation\u2019s Prince of Egypt ($14.5M) 27 years ago. King of Kings gets an A+ CinemaScore, 94% Screen Engine\/Comscore PostTrak positive and 83% definite recommend among regular audiences. 59% female leaning due to moms. Middle of the country success with the Regal Spartanburg, SC the movie\u2019s top grossing location with $17K-plus. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAll of this bodes well for the domestic box office heading into Easter weekend (with 72% K-12 schools off, 28% colleges on break on Good Friday) where Warner Bros will rule with a one-two punch of A Minecraft Movie and Ryan Coogler\u2019s Sinners (even if it falls short of No. 1 \u2014 we\u2019ll assess that if needed). Point is, we\u2019re finally getting some momentum at the B.O. as we head into summer. Even if Disney\/Marvel Studios\u2019 Thunderbolts* comes in at $70M (some distribution sources believe it\u2019s bad luck for summer if it doesn\u2019t kick off with a $100M+ opening); Memorial Day weekend is the surefire backup plan for the industry with Disney\u2019s Lilo &amp; Stitch and Mission: Impossible \u2013 Final Reckoning looking to at least deliver<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/04\/lilo-stitch-mission-impossible-final-reckoning-box-office-projection-1236366745\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> a combined $160M+ over 3 days<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/amateur_dtrl1_uhd_r709f_stills_241108.086861.jpeg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"169\" width=\"300\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t20th Century Studios<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWith five wide releases this weekend, others think there\u2019s too much product, particularly movies which are going after the same demo, i.e. 20th Century Studios\u2019 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-amateur\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-amateur\" data-tag=\"the-amateur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Amateur<\/a> <\/strong>(pulling in 57% guys, 47% men over 25) and A24\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/warfare\/\" id=\"auto-tag_warfare\" data-tag=\"warfare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Warfare<\/a> <\/strong>(72% men, 53% over 25). I get that argument, however, let\u2019s face it \u2014 given both movies\u2019 respective openings of<strong> $15M <\/strong>and <strong>$8M<\/strong>, even in a less competitive marketplace, their openings would be about the same given the P&amp;A spend that both distributors are laying out.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/https___cdn.sanity.io_images_xq1bjtf4_production_3d329d5701455b055afb9e6ac7668bc2e859737a-5989x4000-.jpeg\" alt=\"Will Poulter in 'Warfare\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"200\" width=\"300\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tWill Poulter in \u2018Warfare<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tA24<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tGiven all the pom poms for <strong>Warfare <\/strong>as Alex Garland\u2019s best reviewed movie, 90% positive PostTrak and 67% definite recommend, A- CinemaScore (which is higher than his Civil War at B-), if this military red state grab was ever going to be American Sniper and touch an electric rod, then it would perform that way. Given Warfare\u2018s $20M production cost (vs. Civil War\u2018s $50M), the movie was never expected to perform like the latter (which wound up as A24\u2019s biggest opening ever at $25.5M) given its P&amp;A to production cost spend. Similar to how we\u2019ve dinged Warners for underspending on the P&amp;A for the audience pleaser Companion ($9.3M), A24 may have left potential box office on the table with Warfare. In regards to Warfare\u2018s social media reach across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, X, and Facebook, RelishMix counts 81.7M followers, which is 22% below genre war norms and trailing Civil War\u2018s 101M followers, and Warner Bros\u2019 Chris Hemsworth-Michael Shannon post-9\/11 Afghanistan movie 12 Strong, which had 105.4M followers before opening in 2018 for an opening of $15.8M.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Amateur is playing as expected on the coasts while Warfare has invaded South Central and West. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAmateur\u2018s diversity demos are 49% Caucasian, 21% Latino and Hispanic, 16% Black, 8% Asian &amp; 7% NatAm\/Other with the AMC Lincoln Square in NYC the pic\u2019s top grossing theater so far at $21K. The James Hawes-directed movie received a\u00a0B+ CinemaScore\u00a0with PostTrak audiences giving it a 77% positive and 57% definite recommend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAMC Lincoln Square is also the top venue for Warfare with a running total of $34K. CinemaScore is a B, which is high praise for a genre suspense film. Rotten Tomatoes audience score is 80%. Why isn\u2019t this doing a little more? This is better than Woman in the Yard\u2018s C- and RT audience rating of 46%, as well as Wolf Man\u2018s C- and RT audience 56%. Biggest demo was 25-34 year olds at 35% with a diversity make-up of 52% White, 21% Latino, 12% Black, 8% Asian &amp; 6% NatAm\/Other.\u00a0Drop is playing in the East, South Central and West with AMC Burbank the movie\u2019s best grossing multiplex with $18K-plus so far. The final magic domestic number for Blumhouse\u2019s thrifty fare this year seems to be $20M+. M3GAN 2.0 can\u2019t arrive soon enough (she gets her on June 27).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFathom\u2019s <strong>The Chosen: <\/strong><strong>The Last Supper \u2013 Part 3<\/strong> is seeing a <strong>$6.3M<\/strong> opening after <strong>$2.5M<\/strong> Friday at 2,296 locations. So far, not counting today and Sunday, The Chosen: The Last Supper in its trinity of parts currently counts <strong>$31.7M<\/strong> at the domestic box office. Last Supper Part 3 is playing in the middle of the country with Cinemark 12 American Fork UT the top grossing location with just under $7k. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t1.) That would mark a 51% ease for the Jared Hess-directed movie after $20M today. Illumination\/Nintendo\/Universal\u2019s The Super Mario Bros Movie dipped 37% in its second weekend for $92.3M.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAngel Studios\u2019 animated biblical movie <strong>The King of Kings<\/strong> is looking pretty royal with <strong>$7.3M<\/strong> today, including last night\u2019s $2M, for an <strong>$18M-plus<\/strong> opening at 3,200 sites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t20th Century Studios\u2019 Rami Malek thriller <strong>The Amateur <\/strong>is shaping up to be <strong>$6M<\/strong> today for a <strong>$15M<\/strong> opening. Moviegoers enjoyed it more than critics on Rotten Tomatoes, 89% to 62% fresh. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA24\u2019s<strong> Warfare <\/strong>is Alex Garland\u2019s best-reviewed movie ever on Rotten Tomatoes at 95% certified fresh; that\u2019s higher than 2014\u2019s Ex Machina (92%). This will translate to a <strong>$3.5M<\/strong> Friday, inclusive of previews, and an <strong>$8M<\/strong> opening in fourth place at 2,670 theaters. It took Minecraft one week to hit that mark versus Illumination\/Nintendo\/Universal\u2019s The Super Mario Bros Movie, which did that figure in five days in 2023 \u2014 again because it was a Wednesday release leading into Easter weekend. The anticipation is that Minecraft eases by 60% this weekend to about $65M and another No. 1 showing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAngel Studios is calling <strong>$2M<\/strong> for its animated biblical movie <strong>The King of Kings<\/strong>. That\u2019s pure preview money from showtimes starting at 11 a.m. Thursday. There\u2019s some high excitement that the movie could have the edge over 20th Century Studios\u2019 $60M Rami Malek PG-13 spy movie The Amateur, after $14.6M in presales. The pic is launching today in 3,400 theaters,\u00a0including 400 Imax auditoriums, 300 Premium Large Format screens and 100 D-Box\/Motion screens. Its 3-day is around $6M-$7M. The PG-13 feature is after women 17-34. Drop was made for $11M net before P&amp;A after a robust tax credit from Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA24\u2019s play for the middle of the country, <strong>Warfare<\/strong>, counts <strong>$1.16M <\/strong>previews from both early-access and Thursday showtimes that began at 4 p.m. at 2,670 sites. From directors Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza, the R-rated Navy SEAL POV movie is expected to come in between $7M-$9M.
