{"id":143730,"date":"2025-05-30T09:23:14","date_gmt":"2025-05-30T09:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/143730\/"},"modified":"2025-05-30T09:23:14","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T09:23:14","slug":"carlos-corberan-completes-west-brom-reunion-at-valencia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/143730\/","title":{"rendered":"Carlos Corberan completes West Brom reunion at Valencia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan was brought to The Hawthorns in the first place by Ron Gourlay<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_Rotherham-United-v-West-Bromwich-Albion-Sky-Bet-Championship-AESSEAL-New-York-Stadium.jpg\" alt=\"West Bromwich Albion Chief Executive Officer Ron Gourlay in the stands\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>West Bromwich Albion Chief Executive Officer Ron Gourlay in the stands(Image: PA)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Carlos Corberan has completed a West Bromwich Albion reunion at Spanish outfit Valencia, after the club announced on Thursday evening that Ron Gourlay would be joining to take up the role as the chief executive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Gourlay was at the helm at Albion when the club appointed Corberan in October 2022, following the sacking of Steve Bruce and a disastrous beginning to their Championship campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Corberan led the club to the cusp of the play-offs and then into the top six the season following.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Spaniard left the club in the promotion race again this past season, when he returned to his home country and city to take up the Valencia job on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/christmas\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Christmas<\/a> Day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Valencia at the time were very much in a relegation battle but under Corberan they improved significantly in the second half of the season and progressed comfortably into mid-table.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Now, Corberan will once again work with Gourlay, who himself departed <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/the-hawthorns\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hawthorns<\/a> exactly two years ago having fronted at board level in the absence of then controlling shareholder Guochuan Lai and has since worked in the Saudi Pro League at Al-Ahli, who he left in April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He said: \u201cIt\u2019s a privilege to join Valencia CF at such a pivotal time. This club has passion, heritage, and a global fanbase that deserves success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;I\u2019m thrilled to reunite with Carlos again. With [president] Kiat\u2019s leadership at the helm, we have a shared ambition to restore Valencia to where it belongs \u2013 competing for top honours, with a squad that reflects the club\u2019s identity and future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Kiat Lim added: \u201cWe are building Valencia CF for the future, with a foundation that is sustainable, ambitious, and worthy of our proud history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;In Ron Gourlay, we have a senior and very experienced Sporting CEO who understands the complexities of modern football and the demands of a top-tier club to lead the project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Gourlay was previously at Reading before being appointed CEO of Albion in place of Xu Ke in February 2022 following a consultancy period.
