{"id":143818,"date":"2025-05-30T10:07:11","date_gmt":"2025-05-30T10:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/143818\/"},"modified":"2025-05-30T10:07:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T10:07:11","slug":"what-paul-mitchells-exit-means-for-alexander-isaks-contract-talks-at-newcastle-in-major-twist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/143818\/","title":{"rendered":"What Paul Mitchell&#8217;s exit means for Alexander Isak&#8217;s contract talks at Newcastle in &#8216;major twist&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Amid the shock of Paul Mitchell\u2019s looming departure, Newcastle United still need to sort out Alexander Isak\u2019s contract situation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old has been due to be offered a new deal this summer, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/transfers\/newcastle-united-chiefs-update-on-alexander-isaks-contract-situation-after-champions-league-qualification\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle confident that Isak will extend his contract<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His current deal runs until 2028, but the Magpies are keen to offer him a pay rise after scoring 52 goals over the past two seasons. <strong>Geordie Boot Boys<\/strong> understand that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/news\/newcastle-united-set-to-do-something-unprecedented-to-stop-alexander-isak-from-leaving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle want Isak to be their highest-paid player<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Those negotiations were expected to dominate most of the post-season chat on Tyneside, but the landscape changed when it was announced that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/news\/paul-mitchell-suggests-one-reason-why-he-has-decided-to-leave-newcastle-united\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul Mitchell will be leaving Newcastle United<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2216988830-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by George Wood\/Getty Images\" \/>Photo by George Wood\/Getty ImagesEddie Howe to step up for Alexander Isak contract talks<\/p>\n<p>The sporting director is on his way out of St James\u2019 Park, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/news\/newcastle-united-give-paul-mitchell-replacement-timeline-as-eddie-howe-lands-new-responsibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle searching for his replacement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/tag\/eddie-howe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eddie Howe<\/a> will be involved in that search, while he is also going to be involved in the attempt to get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/tag\/alexander-isak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isak<\/a> to sign on the dotted line.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.givemesport.com\/newcastle-united-transfer-news-howe-prioritising-deal-alexander-isak-st-james-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Give Me Sport<\/a>, Howe is going to play a leading role in contract negotiations with Isak following the announcement over Mitchell\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p>Howe will make Isak\u2019s contract situation a priority, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/club\/manager\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle United manager<\/a> set to be more involved in the club\u2019s \u2018business matters\u2019 in what Give Me Sport describe as a \u2018major twist\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement regarding Mitchell\u2019s future coincides with Darren Eales\u2019 expected departure. It was announced in September 2024 that Eales was stepping down from his role as CEO due to health reasons.<\/p>\n<p>He has remained at the club during the search for his successor, with a replacement not far away from being announced.<\/p>\n<p>Whose contracts are expiring at Newcastle United<\/p>\n<p>It is vital that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/club\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle United<\/a> sort Isak\u2019s future out. A new deal will definitively end talk of a move away, while failure to strike an agreement could result in sharks circling.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Magpies do have the comfort of knowing that Isak still has three years remaining on his current deal.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, there are multiple Toon players whose contracts are set to expire in June.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/news\/callum-wilson-makes-statement-on-his-future-as-newcastle-united-enter-talks-over-new-contract\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle are in talks with Callum Wilson<\/a> over a new deal. His contract is due to expire, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/news\/what-emotional-callum-wilson-did-immediately-after-newcastle-united-qualified-for-the-champions-league\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wilson appeared to say goodbye<\/a> after the Magpies\u2019 game against Everton on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, goalkeepers John Ruddy and Mark Gillespie are set to become free agents unless extensions are signed.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Jamal Lewis and Jay Turner-Cooke are entering the final weeks of their Newcastle United contracts.
