The Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, has announced that his priority within his work has now become the tram-line which will link the city centre with Birmingham<\/a> City’s proposed Sports Quarter and onto the NEC on the outskirts of the city.<\/p>\n Blues<\/a> ‘ owners Knighthead<\/a> have previously unveiled plans for the \u00a33bn Sports Quarter in the east of the city, on the former Wheels site which they purchased, and they hope to move Blues into their new home by 2030.<\/p>\n The project, which is expected to create thousands of jobs in the region and help to alleviate poverty in East Birmingham, has been backed by the Government and Parker, who has worked closely with Blues chairman Tom Wagner<\/a>. It will require, though, support and it’s expected to come in the form of transport links.<\/p>\n The tram-line will cost up to \u00a31bn and its primary focus will be on transporting thousands of football supporters on any given matchday from the city up to the Sports Quarter in time for its launch in the coming years. Parker has once again publicly outlined its importance for the wider city, the local economy and his intention to, in his role, offer backing in any way he can.<\/p>\n “We\u2019re developing a prospectus for this scheme which we\u2019re taking to government,” Parker told Insider Media.<\/a> “We\u2019re working on the case in advance of the Spending Review. This project is my number one regional priority. It\u2019s a bold ambition which supports our ambition for growth.\u201d<\/p>\n What do you expect Blues to achieve next season?
