Glasgow has been hailed as the country’s “friendliest” city, beating London, Edinburgh and Oxford to the top spot last year. This “humble” Scottish port city’s is celebrated for its people, who have an “irresistible charm” and “enthusiastic imagination”, according to Cond\u00e9 Nast Traveller’s top 10.<\/p>\n

With a top score of 97.14 in the same publication’s Readers’ Choice Awards Survey, Glasgow<\/a> is equal to Edinburgh<\/a> for the arts, being the UK’s first UNESCO City of Music and a base in Scotland for ballet and theatre institutions. Cond\u00e9 Nast Traveller<\/a>, in its award citation, said the port city “pulses with the energy of creatives and audiences alike.”<\/p>\n

Interest in Glasgow comes as the publication invites readers to name their top UK destinations in its 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards Survey. Travel blogger, Roving Rainbow<\/a>, described Glasgow as “vibrant and inviting”, with the city centre’s Buchanan Street offering “incredible” shops.<\/p>\n

Another blogger, Where Goes Rose<\/a>, hails the city as a gateway to Loch Lomond and as an affordable spot for a break.<\/p>\n

She recommends the “quirky” area around Pollokshaw Road, Queen’s Park and the shops and bars around Finnieston.<\/p>\n

Travel blogger, Traverse<\/a>, describes Glasgow as “gritty and real” compared to Edinburgh’s polish.<\/p>\n

This writer recommends taking a street art tour, particularly around Glasgow’s East End where there are “vibrant” murals.<\/p>\n

Glasgow also boasts a vintage and antiques market, Barras Market, which comes highly recommended by Traverse.<\/p>\n

It has an “eclectic array” of stalls with “vintage treasures” and “quirky collectibles”, according to the blog’s writer.<\/p>\n

For history buffs, there is also the People’s Palace, which tells the city’s story from its industrial past to its modern culture.<\/p>\n

Other stops well worth a visit include Glasgow Cathedral, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum as well as Kelvingrove Park.<\/p>\n

Among its top restaurant recommendations, Tripadvisor suggests Bar+Block Steakhouse, Drouthy’s, Green Gates Indian restaurant, Fanny Trollopes and Turkiye Efes.<\/p>\n
