President Trump’s pause on some tariffs may not be as relieving as it sounds due to ramped up levies on China, the top supplier of the U.S.<\/p>\n

Vice President JD Vance<\/a> was criticized on social media by Elon Musk<\/a>‘s brother over his tariff defense.<\/p>\n

Kimbal Musk<\/a> on Wednesday shared Vance’s X post that read: “It’s bizarre to see all the limousine socialists screech desperately for dependence on Chinese supply chains and inflated equities.”<\/p>\n

Responding to it in a quoted post, Musk said, “Republicans for higher prices. How about that. This Trump tariff-tax plan<\/a> has driven prices for everyday goods through the roof.”<\/p>\n

His comment came before Trump announced Wednesday afternoon a 90-day pause<\/a> on some targeted tariffs. The pause, however, does not apply to Chinese imports, which will be taxed at 145%<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“@JDVance I read your book<\/a>. It\u2019s good. I\u2019d think you\u2019d have more sympathy for your community\u2019s cost of living,” Musk said in his social media post. “Inflation sucks for everyone, but it especially hits our under-served communities the most.”<\/p>\n

Vance did not appear to reply to Musk on social media, and his office did not immediately respond when contacted by USA TODAY.<\/p>\n

Kimbal Musk is the younger brother of Elon Musk, one of President Donald Trump<\/a>‘s top advisors and who both Forbes<\/a> and Bloomberg<\/a> listed as the richest man in the world. The younger brother is a food entrepreneur.<\/p>\n

Elon Musk appeared to take an opposing stance<\/a> to Trump earlier this week as the stock market was in turmoil after the “Liberation Day” tariff announcements. He got in a public spat with Trump’s top advisor Peter Navarro and shared a video promoting the benefits of free trade.<\/p>\n

Global stocks fell when Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on approximately 60 countries<\/a> in the name of correcting the trade deficit. But when Trump announced a 90-day pause on some levies Wednesday, stocks soared by close before losing some of those gains early Thursday.<\/p>\n

After Trump announced the 90-day pause, the younger Musk brother thanked the president.<\/p>\n

“A healthy negotiated outcome that sets us all up for success is the goal,” he said in a post on X.<\/p>\n
