The list, confirmed on Friday, includes nine schools in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/bolton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bolton<\/a> and eight in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/bury\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bury<\/a>, but just one each in both Salford and Rochdale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Nationally, pupils at 656 schools and sixth forms will benefit from a share of this year&#8217;s \u00a3470 million Condition Improvement Fund (CIF), used for projects like fixing crumbling roofs and removing potentially dangerous old asbestos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One primary school in Bury &#8211; Summerseat Methodist &#8211; will get cash to &#8216;eliminate dry rot&#8217;, said the Government in today&#8217;s announcement. Funding for a seperate school in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/stockport\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Stockport<\/a> &#8211; <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/marple\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Marple<\/a> Hall &#8211; will be used to refurbish a &#8216;life-expired&#8217; flat roof which the announcement said would &#8216;prevent school closure&#8217;. Other projects include heating repairs, fire safety work, roofing and structural improvements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Around \u00a31.2 billion, part of funding packages announced in last year&#8217;s autumn budget, will be spent on repairing crumbling schools &#8211; and hospitals &#8211; across the country. Projects to deliver improvements to schools will be delivered during the 2025\/26 financial year, with the first upgrades to begin this summer, the Government added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">More than 100 schools, nurseries and colleges across England were forced to shut down days before the autumn term in 2023 amid concerns that classrooms and other buildings containing reinforced autoclaved concrete (Raac) were unsafe.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_Raac-schools-closure.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Work being carried out at a primary school(Image: PA)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Schools and colleges had to bid for the funding. The amount of money that&#8217;s been made available for this financial year is said to have increased, but the number of successful bids has fallen. No individual school sums have been revealed. There were 116 successful schools in the north west.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said: &#8220;The defining image of the school estate under the previous Government was children sitting under steel props to stop crumbling concrete falling on their heads. It simply isn&#8217;t good enough. Parents expect their children to learn in a safe, warm environment. has confirmed a \u00a32.1 billion investment for the school estate for 2025\/26, almost \u00a3300 million more than the previous year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Paul Whiteman, general secretary at school leaders\u2019 union NAHT, described the funding boost for school buildings as a \u201cwelcome start\u201d.
