Bruno Fernandes has been given a week to decide whether to leave Manchester United<\/a>, according to reports. The club’s captain is being pursued by Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal in a staggering \u00a3100million transfer deal, which would also see the Portuguese player earn a tax-free \u00a3100m – \u00a3700k per week – over the next three years.<\/p>\n

Al Hilal, who are set to compete in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, are keen to make a significant impact. Saudi officials are aware that the world will be watching when they face Real Madrid in their tournament opener on June 18.<\/p>\n

The Saudi club is eager to sign Fernandes, 30, in a move that would see him join forces with Portugal teammates Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo, ex-Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly, former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, and potentially Cristiano Ronaldo<\/a> – if a temporary deal can be arranged.<\/p>\n

Fernandes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, spent three days in Saudi Arabia this week at the Four Seasons Hotel in Riyadh, negotiating with Al Hilal representatives. And, according to the Mirror<\/a>, Fernandes now has just seven days in which to make his decision over the move.<\/p>\n

There is increasing speculation that Fernandes could be convinced to make the move and the Manchester Evening News understands he is seriously considering the offer.<\/a> Publicly, United maintain that their star player is not for sale.<\/a><\/p>\n

However, the \u00a3100m transfer fee could significantly alleviate their financial woes, particularly after last week’s Europa League<\/a> Final loss to Spurs, which cost them \u00a3100m in Champions League<\/a> revenue for the next season.<\/p>\n

Manager Ruben Amorim, however, is eager for him to remain at the club<\/a> and has urged Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the decision-makers to find the funds from alternative sources.<\/p>\n

Following United’s conclusion of their post-season tour in Asia with a 3-1 win over Hong Kong, where Fernandes featured for the first half, Amorim addressed queries about whether supporters had witnessed their skipper’s final match.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think so, I don’t know for sure. Nobody knows but I don’t think so,” said the Red Devils’ gaffer. “I think he is seeing us taking some actions to change all the things and I think he saw that and I think he wants to stay.<\/p>\n

“He is saying no to a lot of things but he shows he wants to win. He’s really young, he’s really good he needs to be in the best league in the world.”<\/p>\n

When pressed on whether United, who have missed out on European competition for the first time in over a decade, could refuse the substantial sum Al-Hilal is prepared to pay for Fernandes, Amorim responded affirmatively.<\/p>\n

“Yes, we can find another way to earn money,” he stated. “Of course I’m the manager, I’m the coach but sometimes it’s the decision of the player. But of course I talk with him, I explain things. I just have that feeling if he wants to stay.”<\/p>\n

Manchester United’s key player, Bruno Fernandes, expressed his desire to stay at the club, but nothing seems set in stone. Speaking about his conversations with Fernandes, a source revealed: “Of course in a lot of games this season he was so frustrated but he knows what we are doing.<\/p>\n

“The feeling is every time I speak with him he wants to continue at Manchester United but you never know.”<\/p>\n

Fernandes took home the club’s player of the year award for the fourth time, tying a record after standing out in an otherwise lacklustre season for the Red Devils – their worst in the top-flight since being relegated in the 1973-74 season.<\/p>\n

However, former United player Paul Scholes holds a different opinion. Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, he suggested that if Al Hilal is willing to pay \u00a3100m for Fernandes, the club should take the offer.<\/a><\/p>\n

“They are talking about \u00a3100m for him. Man United cannot say no to that.”<\/p>\n

Scholes questioned Fernandes’ position in the team, stating: “You know when you talk about this system as well, I know he has been brilliant and carried the team on his back but where does he play? What is his position? Do you see him as a number 10? Do you see him as a holding midfielder?”.<\/p>\n

“He almost confuses the whole system because he doesn’t have that one position for him. I mean he has been brilliant don’t get me wrong.<\/p>\n

“But when you’re getting \u00a3100m for him you snap their hand off and take it.”<\/p>\n
