Midsomer Murders<\/a> star Daniel Casey<\/a> has responded to returning to the ‘well-loved’ ITV series, saying he would be open to it. <\/p>\n

Starring in the beloved detective drama from 1997 to 2003, Casey played Sergeant Gavin Troy, the original sidekick to John Nettles’ DCI Tom Barnaby.<\/p>\n

Casey left the show when his character was promoted to Detective Inspector, with Nettles remaining in the series until 2011, when he was replaced by Neil Dudgeon.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio Times<\/a> about reprising his role as Troy after 20 years away from the show, which is currently in production for a 25th season, Casey said he would consider the idea. <\/p>\n

He said: “It really hadn\u2019t occurred to me, but I would be open to everything really, and the show is so well loved still.”<\/p>\n

Recalling a brief guest appearance he made on the show back in 2008, Casey said it was “great” to return to Midsomer Murders, saying it would be “lovely” to do it again. <\/p>\n

“I returned once when Cully got married and that was great. I loved my entrance. Coming flying off the road and crashing into the trees and walking out of the wreckage to see John standing there was just brilliant.<\/p>\n

“So yeah, never say never, that would be a lovely idea wouldn\u2019t it!”<\/p>\n

Touching on Dudgeon’s role as Detective Chief Inspector<\/a>, Casey added: “Neil Dudgeon is such a lovely fella and does such a beautiful job.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, it was recently announced that Casey would be stepping into Nettles’ shoes to play DCI Tom Barnaby in a stage production titled Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift, which is set to open in October.<\/p>\n

Back when the stage show was announced, Casey said in a statement: “I never expected to revisit the world of Midsomer, with its weird and wonderful characters and all their dark, twisted secrets.”<\/p>\n
