Acquired in the last decades of the 20th century by the company\u2019s founder, Suzuki Tsuneshi, they are all works from the artist\u2019s sought-after French period: <a class=\"transition-colors duration-default shadow-externalLink hover:text-blue-900\" href=\"https:\/\/www.polamuseum.or.jp\/en\/collection\/002-0011\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Gleize Bridge over the Vigueirat Canal<\/a> (March 1888), <a class=\"transition-colors duration-default shadow-externalLink hover:text-blue-900\" href=\"https:\/\/www.polamuseum.or.jp\/en\/collection\/997-0008\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clumps of Grass<\/a> (April 1889) and <a class=\"transition-colors duration-default shadow-externalLink hover:text-blue-900\" href=\"https:\/\/www.polamuseum.or.jp\/en\/collection\/016-0020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flower Vase with Thistles<\/a> (June 1890).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Three selected Van Gogh paintings from other Japanese collections will be in the exhibition, including <a class=\"transition-colors duration-default shadow-externalLink hover:text-blue-900\" href=\"https:\/\/dali.jp\/en\/collection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peasant Woman<\/a> (December 1884-January 1885), on loan from the Morohashi Museum of Modern Art, Kitashiobara. Maeta Kanji (1896-1930) made a Van Gogh pilgrimage during his three-year stay in France, visiting Auvers-sur-Oise, where Vincent and his brother Theo are buried. There he created a painting of the two headstones, side by side, and this represents one of the earliest images of the graves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">The flowering greenery seems like a blanket covering and uniting the brothers. This was particularly so in Japan, since the industrialist Koyata Yamamoto had bought <a class=\"transition-all duration-default shadow-internalLink hover:text-red-900\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theartnewspaper.com\/2021\/08\/20\/secrets-of-the-two-unknown-van-gogh-sunflowers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Six Sunflowers<\/a> (August 1888) in 1920, making it the first Van Gogh to go to a local collector. It was then much admired by avant-garde Japanese artists. He added a prominent pipe, in a homage to the Dutchman, who had included it in the painting <a class=\"transition-colors duration-default shadow-externalLink hover:text-blue-900\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.org.uk\/paintings\/vincent-van-gogh-van-gogh-s-chair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Van Gogh\u2019s Chair<\/a> (December 1888-January 1889, now at the National Gallery, London).<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">The Pola exhibition also includes contemporary works inspired by Van Gogh. A striking example is the set of photographs entitled Ascent (2016), by Fiona Tan, who was born in Indonesia and now lives in the Netherlands.
