Athletes aged over 18 will now undergo a PCR genetic test before competing in World Boxing events.<\/p>\n

The test may involve a nasal swab, mouth swab, saliva sample or blood draw, the governing body said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PCR test is a laboratory technique used to detect specific genetic material, in this case the SRY gene, that reveals the presence of the Y chromosome, which is an indicator of biological sex,\u201d World Boxing explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cAthletes that are deemed to be male at birth, as evidenced by the presence of Y chromosome \u2026 or with a difference of sexual development (DSD) where male androgenisation occurs, will be eligible to compete in the male category.<\/p>\n

Khelif Previously Disqualified by IBA in 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n

The International Boxing Association disqualified Khelif at the 2023 World Championships over a failed eligibility test.<\/p>\n

However, the International Olympic Committee later cleared her to compete in Paris.<\/p>\n

The IBA has since lost Olympic recognition due to governance issues, paving the way for World Boxing\u2019s rise.<\/p>\n
