Irish rap trio Kneecap’s show at Glasgow’s O2 has sold-out in less than 30 seconds, days after being axed from the TRNSMT<\/a> lineup over “safety concerns”.<\/p>\n

The <\/a>group, formed of rappers Liam Og O Hannaigh (Mo Chara), JJ \u00d3 Dochartaigh (DJ Provai) and Naoise O Caireallain (Moglai Bap), took to social media after general sale tickets were snapped up for the concert<\/a> on July 8 in under a minute.<\/p>\n

The presale sold out in 80 seconds on Thursday, which was a “new record” for the rappers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A statement on Kneecap’s X account read: “Glasgow – 30 seconds of general sale <\/a>and Sin \u00e9.”<\/p>\n

The show at the O2 Academy in Glasgow’s southside comes in place of Kneecap’s TRNSMT set after the Belfast group<\/a>, who rap in the Irish language, were removed from the show on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The band posted a statement on X: “Due to concerns expressed by the Police about safety at the event, Kneecap can no longer perform at TRNSMT<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“To the thousands of people who bought tickets, flights and hotels to see us play, we are sorry…it is out of our hands. Glasgow<\/a> has always been a huge city for us.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ve played<\/a> there many many times, with no issues – ever. Make of that what you will. To try to make up for it, we will be at your O2 Academy on Tuesday July 8.”<\/p>\n

The decision was made following Liam Og O Hannaigh<\/a> being charged with a terror offence over the alleged display of a flag in support of Hezbollah at a gig at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London, in November last year, according to the Metropolitan Police.<\/p>\n

The 27 year old is alleged to have shown it in a way to \u201carouse reasonable suspicion that he is a supporter of a proscribed organisation<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Any decision on the line up at TRNSMT<\/a> is for the organisers and there was no prior consultation with Police Scotland before acts were booked.<\/p>\n

“Officers have highlighted the potential reaction of such a large audience <\/a>to this band would require a significant policing operation in order to support the delivery of a safe event.”<\/p>\n

First Minister John Swinney backed<\/a> calls for them to be axed, stating it would be “unacceptable” for the band to take to such high-profile stages.<\/p>\n

The Irish rap group<\/a> are still set to play Glastonbury this summer on June 27 but have been axed from several UK venues.<\/p>\n

After calls for them to be banned from Glastonbury too, the band threatened to take legal actions against critics over attempts to ban them describing<\/a> them as “defamatory”.<\/p>\n

In 2024, the band released an eponymous film starring Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender <\/a>which is a fictionalised retelling of how the band came together and follows the Belfast group on their mission to save their mother tongue through music.<\/p>\n

Formed in 2017, the group are known for their provocative lyrics and merchandise as well as their championing of the Irish language.<\/a><\/p>\n

Their best-known tracks include Get Your Brits Out<\/a>, Better Way To Live, featuring Grian Chatten from Fontaines DC, and 3Cag.<\/p>\n
