In an extensive new chat with Deadline<\/a>, Warner Bros. CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have spilled the beans on a handful of new projects in the works at the studio, confirming along the way that a brand new installment in the Gremlins<\/strong> film franchise is on the menu!<\/p>\n

This confirms a report from this past January, you may recall, where we had learned that a new Gremlins movie from Chris Columbus<\/strong> was a \u201cfranchise hope\u201d over at Warner Bros.<\/p>\n

Abdy said in the new interview with Deadline this afternoon, \u201cWe\u2019re super excited about Amblin developing with Chris Columbus, new entries in the\u00a0Gremlins\u00a0and\u00a0Goonies\u00a0franchises.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chris Columbus was of course the writer of the original Steven Spielberg-produced\u00a0Gremlins, so it\u2019s very exciting to hear that Columbus is back on board with the franchise.<\/p>\n

Talk of a third\u00a0Gremlins\u00a0movie has come and gone several times over the years, and you can read all about that lengthy history over on\u00a0the franchise\u2019s official Wikipedia page<\/a>. But we had first heard about a new script written by Chris Columbus back in 2017, with that iteration of the script described as being both \u201ctwisted\u201d and \u201cdark.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really proud of the script,\u201d\u00a0Columbus said in 2017<\/a>. \u201cIt is as twisted and dark as anything, so we\u2019ll see. It\u2019s always a budgetary conversation when we\u2019re going to shoot it. I wanted to go back to the really twisted sensibility of the first movie. I found that was a very easy place for me to fall back into and start writing again so hopefully we\u2019ll see that movie soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the same chat with Deadline, Mike De Luca also seemed to confirm that a sequel to last year\u2019s Tim Burton-directed franchise return Beetlejuice Beetlejuice<\/strong> is on the way.<\/p>\n

When asked if WB was \u201calready developing\u201d sequels to Minecraft and\/or Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, he replied: \u201cImminently. The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.\u201d<\/p>\n
