A elderly man has been seriously injured in an alleged hit-and-run in Stockport<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 89-year-old was taken to hospital after being knocked down on Bramhall Lane at around 2pm today<\/a>. A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failure to stop.<\/p>\n

He remains in custody for questioning. Bramall Lane was closed at the junctions with Kennerley Road and Garner’s Lane following the crash, with several ambulances reported to be on the scene. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the air ambulance land at Cale Green Park at around 2.15pm.<\/p>\n

Police described the pensioner’s injuries as ‘serious’, but added the full extent of his condition wasn’t yet known.<\/p>\n

A Greater Manchester police<\/a> spokesperson said: “We are responding to a collision between a car and pedestrian on Bramhall<\/a> Lane, Stockport<\/a> which occurred at 2pm this afternoon. The pedestrian, an 89-year-old man, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, the extent of which aren\u2019t known at this stage.<\/p>\n

“A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failure to stop. He remains in our custody.
