The SNP has blamed Nigel Farage<\/a> for the country\u2019s cost of living crisis. and demanded he apologise to voters.<\/p>\n The party\u2019s Westminster leader Stephen Flynn has launched a scathing attack on the Reform UK<\/a> leader ahead of his planned visit to Scotland tomorrow.<\/p>\n Flynn, alongside the party\u2019s Hamilton by-election candidate Katy Loudon told the Sunday Mail the prominent Brexiteer<\/a> was the \u201ccause\u201d of the current economic problems facing ordinary people.<\/p>\n He said: ” Farage<\/a> is the cause of the cost of living crisis, not the solution.<\/p>\n “He should have apologised to the people of Scotland long ago for the damage inflicted by Brexit<\/a> \u2013 and he should take the opportunity to apologise when he makes his daytrip to Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n Farage<\/a>, a long-time Brexit supporter, was an integral part of the campaign to leave the EU and infamously claimed that an alleged \u00a3350m the UK spent every week on EU membership would be freed up for the NHS.<\/p>\n Hours after the Brexit vote in 2016 the Reform UK<\/a> leader backtracked on the claim, which had been repeatedly criticised as inaccurate by the UK Statistics Authority.<\/p>\n Since Brexit,<\/a> prominent economists have cited it as a reason for soaring bills and rising food costs in the UK including former governor of the Bank of England Mark Carney.<\/p>\n Carney, who is now the Canadian Prime Minister, said Brexit<\/a> had \u201cslowed the pace at which the economy can grow\u201d.<\/p>\n Analysis by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) published in January found that Brexit<\/a> had \u201cpermanently diminished trade efficiency in the UK by introducing customs checks, rules of origin requirements, and regulatory divergence from the EU.\u201d<\/p>\n It said: \u201cThese barriers increase costs for both exporters and importers.\u201d<\/p>\n London mayor Sadiq Khan said last year that Brexit<\/a> had already cost the UK economy \u00a3140bn, citing analysis he had commissioned.<\/p>\n Farage<\/a> will visit Aberdeen tomorrow as well as Hamilton to join Reform\u2019s candidate for the upcoming by-election.<\/p>\n Loudon, who is hoping to become the SNP MSP for the area, said: \u201cNigel Farage has done more than most to harm Scotland\u2019s economy and send costs soaring for Scottish households.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople across this constituency know the damage he has caused because they feel it everyday in higher prices, but the once architect of Brexit<\/a> is now portraying himself as the answer to the challenges facing people across Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse.<\/p>\n \u201c Farage\u2019s<\/a> rhetoric isn\u2019t what improves lives, delivery does; and that\u2019s what the SNP is doing in government.\u201d<\/p>\n Reform UK was contacted for comment.<\/p>\n Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.<\/p>\n You’ll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland.<\/p>\n No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team.<\/p>\n![\"SNP](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_01JRMRNBR2WEKHDJ3C2RYKG79N.jpg\")
