{"id":149458,"date":"2025-06-01T12:42:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-01T12:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/149458\/"},"modified":"2025-06-01T12:42:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-01T12:42:10","slug":"newcastle-united-on-alert-for-potential-psr-fire-sale-at-aston-villa-man-united-and-chelsea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/149458\/","title":{"rendered":"Newcastle United on alert for potential PSR fire sale at Aston Villa, Man United and Chelsea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aston Villa have already raised \u00a3220 million in sales over the last 12 months or so but must comply with Premier League and UEFA financial rules<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Howe.jpg\" alt=\"Eddie Howe, Manager of Newcastle United, applauds the fans following the Premier League match between Newcastle United FC and Everton FC at St James' Park on May 25, 2025\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Eddie Howe is plotting his summer transfer business at Newcastle United.(Image: Photo by George Wood\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Newcastle United are expected to go from hunted to hunter this summer as they try to take advantage of rivals&#8217; struggles with profitability and sustainability rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Newcastle are on a much sounder footing with financial fair play in this transfer window, having had their hand forced to comply over the last couple of years to the point that they sold highly-rated youngsters Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to Nottingham Forest and Brighton for a combined \u00a365 million 12 months ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A rolling three-year cycle gives Eddie Howe more breathing space now, plus they can bank on increased revenue after qualifying for the Champions League.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/aston-villa-fc\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Aston Villa<\/a> have been named 22nd in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/sport\/football\/football-news\/aston-villa-transfer-rich-list-31762324\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Forbes&#8217; world football rich list<\/a> and have banked about \u00a3220m in the last 12 months or so for Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroegbunam, Omari Kellyman, Moussa Diaby, Jhon Dur\u00e1n, Diego Carlos, and Jaden Philogene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But they remain walking a PSR tightrope and also have to address their wage bill to revenue ratio to stay on the right side of UEFA rules, which is why Emi Mart\u00ednez could make an emotional farewell in the coming weeks. There is also the likelihood players at Aston Villa and Chelsea will be targeted given the duo\u2019s own PSR-induced financial issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Those top Premier League sides find themselves in the same position Newcastle did 12 months ago. Back then, Howe was forced to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh in unpopular deals to keep the prospect of points deductions away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;But Howe has vowed teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa will be in their sights as they seek to take advantage of clubs needing quick-fire sales in the next month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;The next few months promise to be interesting as the likes of United, Chelsea and Villa plot how to fend off those looming financial issues while remaining competitive in the top flight. Newcastle have no such concerns as they plot how to fully take advantage of their new-found, improved footing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Last summer saw a flurry of deals between Premier League clubs towards the end of June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Howe said recently: \u201cThe PSR deadline plays a huge role for clubs \u2013 both those clubs with PSR issues and those without, because those without may potentially look to try to sign players.
