{"id":150466,"date":"2025-06-01T21:46:14","date_gmt":"2025-06-01T21:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/150466\/"},"modified":"2025-06-01T21:46:14","modified_gmt":"2025-06-01T21:46:14","slug":"triathlon-champ-alex-yee-reveals-overload-injury-after-stunning-london-marathon-debut-marathon-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/150466\/","title":{"rendered":"Triathlon champ Alex Yee reveals &#8216;overload injury&#8217; after stunning London Marathon debut | Marathon news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Alex Yee<\/strong>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/run247.com\/running-news\/marathon-news\/alex-yee-london-marathon-2025-results-time-splits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">superb marathon debut in London<\/a> has come at a temporary cost as he\u2019s revealed he\u2019s \u201cpicked up a small acute overload injury\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Olympic and World Champion in triathlon put his swim, bike and run career on hold to achieve a lifelong ambition of competing in his home city marathon.<\/p>\n<p>And on an unusually hot day for April, Yee clocked an impressive time of 2:11:08 which was good enough for <a href=\"https:\/\/run247.com\/running-news\/marathon-news\/london-marathon-results-2025-elite-times-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">14th in the Elite men\u2019s race behind winner Sabastian Sawe of Kenya<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sense of perspective<\/p>\n<p>Plans for the rest of the year had been fluid but the 27-year-old had started ramping up his swimming and cycling volume again.<\/p>\n<p>However <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DKPznoItupv\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he revealed on Instagram<\/a> this week: \u201cPost-London I sadly picked up a small acute overload injury. Honestly before this I\u2019ve been lucky. Since my crash I\u2019ve been consistent and I believe that\u2019s been one of my super strengths.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201ccrash\u201d he refers to was a horror one when, aged 19, he suffered broken ribs, cracked vertebrae and a collapsed lung after hitting a bollard and losing consciousness during an ITU Triathlon World Cup event in Cagliari, Italy.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s given him a real sense of perspective which he\u2019s applied to this current setback as he added: \u201cThe first few weeks I definitely felt down and had a constant urgency to get back, but recently this has turned to gratitude. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA gratitude I can push my body, I\u2019m healthy and an understanding of the opportunity and challenge somebody has given me for myself and to others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" alt=\"Alex Yee London Marathon 2025\" class=\"wp-image-22774 perfmatters-lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Alex-Yee-London-Marathon-2025.jpg\"  data-\/>Alex Yee in action during his London Marathon debut in 2025 [Photo credit: TCS London Marathon].<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This year isn\u2019t done\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Yee is the most successful triathlete in Olympic history with two golds, a silver and a bronze his combined haul from Paris and Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>And he\u2019s heeding the words of one of his heroes \u2013 martial arts specialist and philosopher Bruce Lee \u2013 as he plots his comeback and insists \u201cthis year isn\u2019t done!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yee added: \u201cBruce once said \u2018Don\u2019t pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I think I\u2019m trying to say is, enjoy movement, enjoy challenging yourself and enjoy life. We don\u2019t get a respawn and this year isn\u2019t done!
