{"id":150974,"date":"2025-06-02T02:23:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T02:23:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/150974\/"},"modified":"2025-06-02T02:23:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T02:23:12","slug":"russia-ukraine-war-list-of-key-events-day-1194-russia-ukraine-war-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/150974\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 1,194 | Russia-Ukraine war News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">These are the key events on day 1,194 of Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s where things stand on Monday, June 2:<\/p>\n<p>Fighting<\/p>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>Ukraine said it destroyed Russian bombers worth $7bn at airbases as far away as Siberia, in an attack that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called Kyiv\u2019s \u201clongest-range operation\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Al Jazeera\u2019s Dorsa Jabbari, reporting from Moscow, said the \u201csimultaneous large-scale attack\u201d was \u201claunched from inside Russia\u201d and targeted \u201cRussian planes that have been carrying out attacks on Ukraine\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>An official at Ukraine\u2019s SBU intelligence service told the Reuters news agency that the operation involved hiding explosive-laden drones inside the roofs of wooden sheds and loading them onto trucks, which were driven to the perimeter of the airbases. At least 41 Russian warplanes were hit, they said.<\/li>\n<li>Russia\u2019s TASS news agency said there were no military or civilian casualties and that \u201csome of the participants\u201d had been detained.<\/li>\n<li>The operation came as Ukraine\u2019s Air Force said Russia had launched 472 drones at the country overnight, in the highest nightly total of the war. Moscow also launched seven missiles.<\/li>\n<li>This included a missile attack on a Ukrainian military training ground that killed 12 soldiers and wounded more than 60 on Sunday morning, according to Ukraine\u2019s Ground Forces.<\/li>\n<li>The assault led Ukrainian Ground Forces commander Mykhailo Drapatyi to announce his resignation, saying he felt a \u201cpersonal sense of responsibility\u201d for the soldiers\u2019 deaths.<\/li>\n<li>Meanwhile, in Russia, at least seven people were killed and 69 injured when a bridge in the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/6\/1\/train-derails-near-russia-ukraine-border-killing-at-least-seven\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collapsed<\/a> onto a passing passenger train. Moscow Railway, in a post on Telegram, said the bridge had collapsed \u201cas a result of an illegal interference in the operation of transport\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>A second bridge collapse caused a freight train to derail in Russia\u2019s Kursk region, which also borders Ukraine, injuring a train driver, according to the acting governor of the area.<\/li>\n<li>A Ukrainian drone attack on Kursk also sparked fires after debris from destroyed drones fell on private homes, the acting governor said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Politics and diplomacy<\/p>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine was sending a delegation led by Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/5\/30\/ukraine-yet-to-commit-to-new-round-of-russia-talks-in-istanbul\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">second round of peace talks<\/a>, which are set to begin today in Istanbul, Turkiye.<\/li>\n<li>Vladimir Medinsky, a former cultural minister who will lead Russia\u2019s delegation in Istanbul, said Moscow has received Ukraine\u2019s \u201cversion of the memorandum on a peaceful settlement\u201d, the TASS news agency reported.<\/li>\n<li>However, Zelenskyy said that Russia has yet to share its own memorandum. \u201cWe don\u2019t have it, the Turkish side doesn\u2019t have it, and the American side doesn\u2019t have the Russian document either,\u201d the Ukrainian president said in a post on X.<\/li>\n<li>TASS reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his United States counterpart, Marco Rubio, spoke by telephone about \u201cseveral initiatives aimed at a political solution to the Ukraine crisis\u201d, including Monday\u2019s talks.<\/li>\n<li>An exit poll in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/6\/1\/poland-votes-for-new-president-in-high-stakes-run-off-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poland\u2019s presidential run-off<\/a> shows the two candidates are very close and that the race is still too close to call, in an election where aid to Kyiv, Ukraine\u2019s potential membership of NATO and Ukrainian refugees were key issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"These are the key events on day 1,194 of Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine.
