{"id":151189,"date":"2025-06-02T04:24:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T04:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/151189\/"},"modified":"2025-06-02T04:24:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T04:24:09","slug":"tommy-paul-says-hes-got-some-good-new-ideas-before-he-takes-on-carlos-alcaraz-in-the-french-open-quarter-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/151189\/","title":{"rendered":"Tommy Paul says he&#8217;s got some &#8216;good new ideas&#8217; before he takes on Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open quarter-final"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Tommy Paul is into the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the fourth time in his career, and for the first time at Roland Garros. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The American cruised past Alexei Popyrin in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 to book his place in the last eight.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/tommy-paul-has-just-done-something-that-no-american-has-done-since-andre-agassi-in-2003\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul put an end to a 22-year dry spell<\/a> of American men failing to reach the quarter-finals of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">French Open<\/a>, becoming the first to do so since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andre-agassi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andre Agassi<\/a> in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Over the clay season, the 28-year-old has been in impressive form, having made the semi-finals of the Italian Open where he met <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jannik-sinner-gives-the-reason-why-he-struggled-so-badly-in-the-first-set-against-tommy-paul-in-their-italian-open-semi-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jannik Sinner, who ultimately emerged victorious<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His next opponent is the defending champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a>, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/tommy-paul\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul<\/a> suggested he has been preparing for since last summer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"697\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-2217529679-1024x697.jpg\" alt=\"2025 French Open - Day Four\" \/>Photo by Julian Finney\/Getty ImagesTommy Paul says he has some \u2018good new ideas\u2019 on playing Carlos Alcaraz<\/p>\n<p>After his triumph over Popyrin, Paul said on Alcaraz: \u201cWe actually played here not even a year ago at the Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like I played a decent match. I know a lot of things that I could have done better, and I had a couple of set points, I think, in the second set.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI ended up losing in straights.
